I'm not a fan of Monopoly in general, being a terrible game and a great way to lose friends. But if you'd like to give money to some local schools, Lifeline, and wouldn't mind buying a piece of the Princes Highway or the Ku-ring-gai Town Hall, this is a rather sweet tie-in.

Ku-ring-gai Monopoly is a limited edition cooked up by some local businesses and public organisations, including the Ku-ring-gai Council, Woolies, Bendigo Bank and others. It's really a charity drive based around a Ku-ring-gai themed version of Monopoly, where all proceeds go towards the following:

St Lucy’s School
Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women’s Shelter
KYDS Youth Development Services
Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury

It's available for $60, and it's actually a really sweet community initiative. It's certainly more appealing than that god-awful Millenial edition Hasbro debuted recently, and it's a clever way to get people to rally behind some community organisations around Christmas.

The full list of locations include:

Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden
St Ives Show-ground
Canoon Road Netball Courts
Lane Cove National Park
Garigal National Park
Echo Point Park
Marian Street Theatre
Eryldene Historic House and Garden
Gordon Library
Edenborough Park
Wahroonga Park
Ku-ring-gai Bicentennial Park
Ku-ring-gai Town Hall
Roseville Bridge
Kipling’s Garage Bar
The Swain Gardens
Sheldon Forest
Turramurra Lookout Community Garden
Pacific Highway
Mona Vale Road
Bobbin Head Road
Ku-ring-gai National Park

I don't know about you, but placing houses on Mona Vale Road and the Pacific Highway seems like a good strategy. Art really does imitate life.

A group of co-op speedrunners have completed the Left 4 Dead 2 campaign “Dead Air” a record time of 7:53, and to do so they’ve used some interesting strategies.

Runners burhác, LuckY, bill_play3, and JurasPatryk have claimed the world record in completing “Dead Air” the fastest in a thread on Reddit. Despite the lack of a single campaign category on what most consider to be the most official speedrunning records site, the names in this run appear enough in the top ten records for most parts of Left 4 Dead 2 that we can probably trust the claim.

I don’t know all that much about Left 4 Dead 2 speedrunning, but I have an interest in the game itself, and seeing some of the strategies that the runners use is fascinating to me.

The one in the GIF at the top of this page in which the player Mario stomps a zombie to get over a fence is awesome, and the move late in the video where they use the acceleration from an item throw to rocket up onto a skybridge is a great moment of knowledge and skill.

I love to see people really stretching a game to its full potential, and the fact that these players are more or less just playing this game very, very quickly is bonus. No one is glitching out of bounds or doing super strange stuff. Instead, it’s mostly just running through a level very fast. Any zombie film survivor would be proud.

EA and DICE have issued patch notes for a day-one update to Battlefield V. It's out already for players who have gained early access through EA's subscription services or a special edition, and it's targeted mainly at a handful of stability issues and bugs.

The change log details the fixes. It fixes an issue in which team sizes could be very uneven, makes improvements to matchmaking to reduce disconnects, and addresses an error that would make the revive functionality stop working, among many others. In particular, a few distinct Airborne issues have been addressed by this patch, along with one in War Stories that would prevent you from collecting Letters.

The patch has a couple of platform-specific notes too. On Xbox One the patch improves how it resumes when you use the Instant-On function, while on PC it enables RTX ray tracing if your graphic card supports it. The studio also encourages feedback, which you can give through its forums or the Answers HQ.

Battlefield V reviews have started to roll out in advance of its release next week. GameSpot's own early impressions suggest there's a lot more to explore before the final verdict, but it's off to a good start.

"As of now, it feels as if Battlefield V is a variation on a well-established theme. It maintains the series tradition of grand spectacle with incredible sound design, impactful weaponry, and large-scale multiplayer chaos," wrote Michael Higham. "There's a lot more to dig into, like the fortification system, squad reinforcements perks, and how destruction may change map dynamics, and spending more time with the game will paint a better picture. At the end of the day, it's still Battlefield, and Battlefield V is shaping up to be a good one at that."

Change List

Fixed an issue that could result in a very uneven number of players at the start of a round.
Made improvements to matchmaking with a full squad which should result in less disconnects.
In some cases, the revive functionality would suddenly stop to function for all of the players on a server. This has now been fixed.
Further improvements to game client stability have been made.
In the Airborne game mode, spawn protection has been added when attackers spawn into planes. The planes are no longer as vulnerable to AA fire as they used to be at longer distances.
Fixed an issue in Airborne where the bomb carriers could finish arming the objective even though they were dead.
Players can no longer shoot down airplanes too quickly in Airborne, which could result in the attackers not being able to spawn.
In War Stories, players are no longer able to collect Letters while playing offline due to them not being able to update the persistence counters, which requires an online connection.
Fixed an issue where a weapon would disappear on the weapon selection screen.
Fixed an issue in Frontlines mode on Devastation where the bomb in some rare cases spawned inside a wall.
Fixed an issue which made the menus unusable when cancelling a matchmaking session.
Fixed an issue with the lens sight alignment on the MP34 weapon.

Xbox One Only

Improved how the game resumes when using the Xbox One Instant-On function.

PC Only

RTX ray tracing can now be enabled with graphics cards that support this function.

Pop goes the Fenix.

Gears Pop, the cute mobile spin-off from the usually grim and gritty Gears of War franchise, made a surprise debut at E3 earlier this year. Now with the game around the corner in some territories, The Coalition has shown the first gameplay footage.

In an extended dev diary, studio head Rod Fergusson and game director Tyler Bielman explain that the game is preparing for a soft launch--the practice when mobile games launch in some individual territories to put a game through its paces on a small-scale, similar to a beta. Since word would be getting out regarding the game at that point anyway, The Coalition decided this was the time to show off footage. The result is an extended look at a single match, lasting about three minutes, with a striking resemblance to the mobile game Clash Royale.

As Bielman explains, their goals in transitioning Gears to a new format was to deliver on a few pillars of the Gears universe: cover, so-called "explosive moments," and the familiar Gears characters. You can build a team of Gears heroes and villains for 3v3 matches in an arena setting.

Gears Pop was one of three games that made its debut at E3 2018, alongside Gears Tactics for PC and Gears 5 for Xbox One. Gears 5 debuted a trailer along with its original announcement. Both Gears 5 and Gears Pop are scheduled for release in 2019, while Tactics doesn't yet have a release date.https://www.geezgo.com/sps/47045

Expect some bugs in the week just before the Black Armory drops.

Bungie has given word on when to expect Destiny 2's next big paid update, Black Armory, along with a heads-up about some growing pains that may come along with it. The new content will drop on December 4, and Bungie warns that the week prior may raise unforeseen issues as it prepares to roll out the update.

In an update on the official blog, the team says it is working to make a list of temporary changes so players will know what to expect, and it encourages anyone impacted by unexpected bugs help forum.

The Black Armory is part of the new Season of the Forge, which will begin on November 27. It will be followed by the Season of the Drifter, followed by another unnamed season. Season of the Forge will add the new The Dawning event, new Crucible content, and new weapons. Annual Pass holders who can access the Black Armory will get Light and Fury weapons, the new Forges of the Chain activity, a Raid Lair, Exotics, and Legendaries.

The blog also noted a set of changes coming to the PvP/PvE hybrid Gambit Mode. Infamy will be more readily available, with Infamy rank point awards for all bounties being doubled. Various challenges have been retuned to be easier to complete and a new bounty rewards Primeval envoy kills. Ranking up in subdivisions will award Legendary weapons and armor. Plus the players who receive their Primeval second can only receive one "catch-up" stack of Primeval Slayer, rather than multiple stacks based on performance.

If you need to rack up Infamy, next week will be the time. A Double Infamy event will take place next Tuesday, November 20 through Friday, November 23, followed by a Triple Infamy event from November 23 through Tuesday, November 27.

Finally, Bungie suggested the transition into the next year of Destiny 2 will come with its own changes and plans for the future. The company has previously said it has a full year of content planned following Forsaken. Black Armory will be the first piece of content for Annual Pass holders and more free content for everyone is coming.

"The time has come to begin a new conversation about how the Destiny endgame will continue to thrive in the months to come," the blog states. "What will each Season hold for every player of Destiny 2? How will the Annual Pass add to that experience? These are the questions we want to answer as we introduce you to a whole way to to enjoy your hobby as a Guardians with new challenges to conquer and new rewards you’ll want to add to your inventory.

"Next week, as the holiday season begins in our neck of the woods, the news coming out of our studio will be random and light. The week after, we’ll be exploring all the details of another kind of season. Stay tuned for what comes next."

This comes just after Activision publicly noted that Destiny 2's Forsaken expansion failed to meet sales targets. In that call, the company signaled that it would be looking for new ways for players to spend through in-game microtransactions. As Bungie plans whatever it has in store for seasonal content, it may also have to make changes to answer for revenue expectations from the game's publisher.

Black Ops 4 gets another host of changes.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has gotten another global update across all platforms, including quality-of-life improvements, a new Perk system modifier, and PC-specific balance changes. Plus it includes the usual round of regular bug fixes that are to be expected with an ongoing live game.

In the patch notes, Treyarch says that the PC balance updates are distinct from the other platforms and the teams evaluate them separately. As a result the notes have their own PC section with additional keybinds, more slight toggles for things like push to talk or Asus Aura RGB effects, and several balance changes to weapons.

Meanwhile, all modes got improvements to detecting melee attacks, exploit fixes in Multiplayer, and crash fixes in Zombies. The Zombies mode also got a new modifier to its Perk system to increase weapon reload speed. If you've played previous games you may recognize this as the "Speed Cola" perk. Combining it with Fast Mags/Hybrid Mags, it results in a 50% overall increase.

"This preserves the role of these weapon attachments in creating the quickest-handling guns in each weapon class," reads the notes. "Additionally, we wanted to ensure the reload modifiers from certain Pack-a-Punch versions of weapons are still meaningful, which stack with the new 'Speed Cola' tuning values."

If you haven't yet grabbed Black Ops 4, Amazon has a hot deal offering it for $40. This matches the best sale price across retailers on Black Friday. Plus, if you need a system to go with it, Sony just announced a new PlayStation 4 bundle that includes the game for free.

Spider-Man, Spider-Man; save some dollars while you can.
Marvel's Spider-Man is a critical and commercial success, but if you were holding out to web up a Spidey discount, today is your day. As part of Ebay's ongoing pre-Black Friday sales, you can get the swinging superhero for $40--the lowest price we've seen from the coming sales season. [Update: The sale price has now gone up to $43 as of the time of writing, which is still a deep discount.]

Like many of Ebay's sale items, this is likely limited by time and supply. You can pick it up at the sale price here. You may have to wait a bit for delivery, though; as of time of writing, delivery is estimated December 5-10. This joins Ebay's line-up of "Better Than Black Friday" deals, which includes discounts on other recent games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Black Ops 4.

Spider-Man sold record numbers for Sony, and its success helped Sony's bottom line so much that the company as a whole raised its profit forecast. This Ebay deal is the only discount we've seen this season on the standalone game, though Sony is offering a big discount on the game bundled with a new PS4 console as well for Black Friday.

Insomniac and Sony just detailed the second DLC pack Turf Wars, part of the ongoing serialized story The City That Never Sleeps. It's set to drop next week, on November 20, with new story missions, sidequests, and of course, Spidey suits.
"The feeling of embodying Spidey and using his abilities is astonishing, and the time spent on exploring its major characters help make its story feel heartfelt, despite superhero bombast," critic Edmond Tran said in GameSpot's Spider-Man review. "There have been open-world Spider-Man games before, but none so riveting and full of personality, none that explore and do justice to this many facets of the universe."

The cultural phenomenon continues to grow
By Shawn Knight,

Bottom line: Fortnite Battle Royale entered a new market this week and the influx of new players is being immediately felt. Expect Epic's numbers to only increase as word of the game spreads in South Korea and additional systems come online over the holidays.

Fortnite, the massively popular shooter from Epic Games, recently reached a record 8.3 million concurrent players worldwide following the launch of battle royale mode in South Korea.

The colossal figure was supplied by Epic Games Korea CEO Sung Chul Park during an interview with Inven. VG247 verified the number with a spokesperson from Epic. Twice.

By comparison, Fortnite hit a peak of 3.4 million concurrent players in February which caused server woes for Epic. In August, the company said it had its biggest month ever with 78.3 million gamers logging on to play across all platforms.

Steam, Valve’s digital distribution platform, attracts around 14 million users on average during peak play times.

What Epic Games has managed to accomplish with Fortnite is nothing short of incredible. They’ve built an entire culture around the game, offering it for free and making boatloads of cash through optional in-game cosmetic purchases. Creative updates that arrive on a predictable and frequent schedule keep the game fresh and fun and with a new wave of funding, the sky’s the limit for Fortnite and Epic.

Paving the way for other lucrative sports tie-ins
By Shawn Knight,
In brief: Epic's new partnership with the NFL is a brilliant way for gamers to express their football fandom in Fortnite and an even better way for Epic and the NFL to rake in additional revenue. It could also be a sign of things to come as other sports tie-ins suddenly seem much more likely.

Epic Games has come up with yet another way to seemingly print money at will. The developer on Monday inked a partnership with the National Football League to bring officially licensed outfits to the Battle Royale Item Shop.

NFL team outfits will be available to purchase from November 9. Gamers will be able to select a jersey from any of the league’s 32 teams and customize it with a number from 1-99. Outfits will be available as both male and female characters and once you buy a uniform, you can change teams and numbers before each match.

Brian Rolapp, chief media and business officer at the NFL, said the partnership represents a great opportunity for millions of NFL fans who are Fortnite players to express their fandom inside the game while at the same time exposing their brand to countless others.

According to ESPN, you’ll purchase NFL team outfits using V-Bucks, Fortnite’s in-game currency. Expect to pay the equivalent of around $15 for an NFL uniform.

Epic’s deal with the NFL paves the way for other lucrative sports tie-ins. I imagine a lot of gamers would be interested in outfitting their characters with NBA, NHL or MLB attire.

The 20-year-old Finn was undefeated going into the finals
By Cal Jeffrey,
What just happened? For the first time ever, a non-Korean StarCraft II player has won the WCS. Joona "Serral" Sotala from Finland swept the payoffs and semifinals to get to the big game where he faced South Korea's Kim "Stats" Dae Yeob. Sotala won $280,000 and title of Global Champion.

Finnish player Joona Sotala, better known by his gaming moniker “Serral” beat Kim “Stats” Dae Yeob in StarCraft II to win Blizzcon’s World Championship Series (WCS). The WCS has long been dominated by the Koreans. Serral is the first non-Korean to win the game's top prize.

PC Gamer notes, Sotala commanded the tournament leading up to the finals, going in undefeated. Early predictions had him facing Cho “Maru” Seong Ju. Maru is judged by many to be the second best player in the game. However, he was eliminated in the playoffs by Kim “sOs” Yoo Jin. Stats then swept sOs in the semifinal match.

In the WCS finals, which were held yesterday, Serral took a commanding early 3-0 lead. Just when it looked like he might sweep the match, Stats was able to break his momentum and won two consecutive games. However, Serral came back to win the six-game and the match 4-2.

After sweeping four back-to-back WCS titles and then the Global Championship, Serral is now ranked the number one StarCraft II player in the world.

“I don’t know what to say,” said Sotala. “I mean, when I came here I wasn’t really expecting to win, but at the same time, it was my goal, so… Yeah, it feels incredible.”

In addition to the prestigious StarCraft II trophy that gets added to his collection, Serral won a $280,000 purse in the finals. Added to his commanding wins in the WCS Circuit, Sotala has won a total of $470,275 in 2018 and has made history in the process.https://www.geezgo.com/sps/45513

Blizzard also released a new animated short starring outlaw McCree.

As ever at Blizzcon, Blizzard had a new Overwatch hero to reveal. The 29th playable character is Ashe, the damage-dealing leader of the Deadlock Gang. Along with her main weapon, a semi-automatic rifle, she can use her coach gun to knock enemies away and thrust herself backwards. Her dynamite attack sets enemies on fire, dealing some extra damage over time. For her ultimate ability, she can call in her robot cohort, B.O.B., to barrel through the opposing team and attack them with his arm cannons.

Introducing Ashe—leader of the Deadlock Gang and rebellious gunslinger who's not afraid to get her hands dirty.

— Overwatch (@PlayOverwatch) November 2, 2018

Blizzard also revealed a new animated short, "Reunion," which highlights Ashe's relationship with outlaw McCree. Set on the Route 66 map, it shows just what happened with that train robbery outside the diner.

The studio had previously confirmed that, unlike at the last two Blizzcons, it would not announce a new map at this year's event. The Overwatch side of Blizzcon continues over the weekend with the Overwatch World Cup -- you can watch the matches from any perspective using a new viewer tool. Oh, and you can also get your hands on a cereal based on everyone's favorite wall-riding Brazilian, Lucio, as well as the DJ's debut album.

Rapper Logic will also join the November 8th event.

To build up hype for the upcoming release of Fallout 76, Bethesda pulled the handle on the pop culture slot machine and it landed on Ninja, Logic and Rick and Morty. That motley crew of nerd stardom will play through the new online survival game on during a livestream event. The broadcast will be available on Bethesda's Twitch and Mixer channels, as well as Microsoft's Mixer. The stream will start at 9 PM ET on Thursday, November 8th.

Bethesda hasn't provided much detail as to what to expect out of the stream, but the names of the guest stars alone are probably enough to pique the interest of most gamers. Ninja is one of the most famous streamers on Twitch -- he averages more than 60,000 viewers each time he hops online -- and broke the record for most concurrent viewers on the platform earlier this year when he played Fortnite with Drake. Logic is a wildly popular rapper with a platinum-certified record to his name. Rick and Morty is the only show in history to inspire widespread outrage over dipping sauce availability at McDonald's.

The gang will apparently be playing through Fallout 76 together on Xbox One. If watching nerd royalty play the game isn't all that satisfying, you can play the beta version of Fallout 76 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 or PC by pre-ordering the game (though be careful, it's pretty buggy). Fallout 76 officially releases on November 14th.

Just remember that it's the base game.
Bungie and Activision aren't going to stop at handing out free copies of Destiny 2 to console gamers. Right in time for the launch of BlizzCon, they're making the base PC version of the shared-world shooter available for free from now through November 18th. You'll need to enable SMS-based two-factor authentication if you're brand new to Battle.net, but you're otherwise good to go. Just remember that this is the base game, not Forsaken -- you'll still need to pay to stay current, which is no doubt what Bungie is hoping for.

If you don't snag Forsaken, you'll have an opportunity to play the extended game's PvP/PvE hybrid game mode, Gambit, between November 9th and November 11th.

The giveaway is meant to mark the first anniversary of Destiny 2's PC release, but it's also a strategic move: this puts the game in the hands of legions of people who otherwise wouldn't give it a try. Even if they don't translate to paying customers, they'll expand the size of the community and give veterans a reason to keep coming back.

The sets will be available January 1st, 2019.

Overwatch has been such a phenomenon that it's starting to take eek into everything. The latest example of Overwatch creep comes to the world of Lego. The company is releasing six Overwatch-themed building sets that feature vehicles, characters and weapons from the game. The Lego Overwatch collection will be available starting next year.
Most of the sets feature multiple Overwatch characters and highlight a specific map from the game. The Tracer vs. Widowmaker set recreates the drone satellite from the Watchpoint: Gibraltar map. Hanzo vs. Genji pits dragon brothers against one another at the Hanamura dojo. A set called Dorado Showdown places Soldier: 76, Reaper and McCree in buildings from the Dorado map. A D.Va and Reinhardt set comes with buildable mech suit and powered armor that the tank heroes rock into battle. The Bastion set comes with a buildable version of the character that can be configured for both recon mode and sentry mode. The sizable, 730-piece Watchpoint: Gibraltar set comes with Mercy, Reaper, Winston and Pharah.

Lego Overwatch sets will start at $14.99 and range all the way up to $89.99. You'll be able to get your hands on them for the Overwatch fan in your life (even if that's just yourself) starting January 1st, 2019.

Xbox has announced five games that are being added to the Xbox Game Pass catalogue, and there are some pretty good ones in here, to be fair.

From November 1 you'll be able to play the lovely nazi murder sim Sniper Elite 4, as well as the wonderful OlliOlli 2 XL Edition which improved on the original's combo system.

On top of that there's Sheltered, which is 'a post-apocalyptic bunker simulator where you need to keep your family of four alive for as long as possible,' and Rise and Shine, where you play as a young fella called Rise who takes on aliens with his gun called... yep, Shine.

On November 6, you'll be able to have a go on a brand new game, and a game that I think is particularly interesting, called Grip: Combat Racing. D'you remember that PlayStation and PC title from 1999 called Rollcage where you could drive on walls and that? Well, Grip sort of looks like that, basically. I'm in. Rollcage was terrific fun.

Here, have a look at Grip below in this trailer to get a better idea of what it is. Look at yer man flying around the futuristic-looking tracks with explosions and stuff. Yeah, I like the look of it.

'Resident Evil,' 'Resident Evil 0' and 'Resident Evil 4' are coming.

Capcom is bringing a trio of classic Resident Evil games to the Nintendo Switch. The company announced via Twitter today that Resident Evil, Resident Evil 0, and Resident Evil 4 will soon shamble onto Nintendo's platform. No concrete release dates have been given, just that they'll arrive sometime in 2019.

Released in 1996, the first Resident Evil helped define the survival horror genre of video games. The upcoming Switch port is just the most recent in its string of console appearances. Since its initial release, it's been ported to many different platforms and has been remade twice, first in 2002 for the Nintendo GameCube, and again in 2015 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Resident Evil 4 is also notorious for its slew of re-releases, having been ported to more than seven different platforms across several console generations. It's not exactly surprising given the historical impact RE4 boasts; it's largely credited with re-inventing the third-person action genre. This entry did away with the franchise's slow-paced emphasis on horror and cranked the action up considerably.

Resident Evil 0 has received less attention since its initial 2002 release, so its inclusion in today's announcement is unexpected. This prequel to the original Resident Evil received a high-definition remaster in 2016, but hasn't received the same love the other entries boast. This is perhaps due to the fact that it was originally released to a post-Resident Evil 4 landscape. The series took a decidedly action-heavy turn once RE4 arrived, and RE0's gameplay harkened back to the series' classic survival horror formula, which some fans felt was dated and slow.

While Capcom's announcement will be exciting for fans of the franchise, they'll likely have to wait for news of a more specific release date -- right now, Capcom is focused on getting its Resident Evil 2 remake out the door. Still, the prospect of taking these classics on the go with the Nintendo Switch is sure to please longtime survival horror fans.

Let's rage

When I bought the Nintendo Switch a few months ago, my friends told me to buy Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. That’s precisely what I did, but none of those games were enough to get me hooked, which is probably for the best.

But then came Super Mario Party, which Nintendo released earlier this month for the Switch. I grew up gaming, but somehow never played Super Mario Party. Well, it seems as if I’ve been missing out my whole life.

Super Mario Party for Nintendo Switch is a quick, pick-up-and-play kind of game. You set the difficulty level, tell the game how much you want to party (ten, fifteen or twenty turns) and that’s how long you’ll party. But be careful playing with your friends or significant others — because it’s bound to stir up people’s competitive nature.

For those who are unfamiliar with Super Mario Party, it’s a digital board game. The name of the game (well, not literally) is to collect the most stars.

This is my character, Bowser Jr., collecting a star like a boss

To collect these stars, you roll one of two dice — a standard one or one that’s unique to your character. Some characters have dice that roll up to ten (like Donkey Kong and Bowser), but that also comes with the risk of not moving at all or losing coins, which you need to buy stars.

After each round, you play a mini-game, where you’re able to earn some more coins. Depending on the game, you’ll need to put your memory, hand-eye coordination or even sense of touch to work. Thankfully, there’s an opportunity to practice before each mini-game.

Throughout the game, there are opportunities to steal coins and stars from people. During my last party, Luigi stole a star from Yoshi (played by my girlfriend) and it wasn’t pretty. Let’s just say profanities were exclaimed.

There are more than 80 minigames available to play — some of which make great use of the Joy Con, the name for the Switch’s detachable controllers.

The party mode has four game boards. My favorite board (that is, the board on which I tend to perform the best, is Megafruit Paradise. Down the road, maybe through a software update of sorts, it’d be great to have more boards to choose from.

Super Mario Party also features a couple of other modes — river survival, where you control a boat with the Joy-Con paddles, a Sound Stage that reminds me of Dance Dance Revolution and mini-game mode, where you just play mini-games.

But in my experience, its the most fun to play the standard party mode. I’ve heard the best way to play the game is with four humans, but I’ve only ever played it with my girlfriend. We’re already both pretty intense about it so I could only imagine what it’d be like to play with two other people. Consider this my open invitation to holler at me to get a party started.

Some in the league think blaming the video game is just an excuse
By Cal Jeffrey,
In context: Fortnite has become a phenomenon. Some have compared it to WoW in that players are becoming addicted and spending way too much time on it. At least one professional hockey team thinks it is a big enough distraction that it has banned its players from playing the battle-royale sensation.

Fortnite has become so popular that it is reportedly leading to addiction, interfering with people's marriages, and affecting professional lives.

According to ESPN, management for the Vancouver Canucks have banned their players from playing the game during the upcoming season. The ban comes following the team’s lackluster 2017-18 season with a W/L ratio of 31/40 earning it second to last in the Western Conference.

Other players in the league think that Vancouver is just scapegoating the game.

“I think they just needed something to blame after last year,” said Patrik Laine, star winger for the Winnipeg Jets. Even so, Laine said that his team made a similar arrangement this season. “We kind of made a deal if we're playing like that, we can give up our PlayStations, so we're not going to take them on the road. But I don't think that's going to happen.”

The concern is that after staying up late playing the game players are not at their peak during practices and games. It particularly concerning at the major junior level where young up-and-comers are not wholly focused on playing hockey at a professional level.

Even some of the top draft picks admit to playing Fortnite probably more than they should. Brady Tkachuk, a winger picked up by Ottawa in the fourth round, acknowledges that he and other young players play Fortnite quite a bit.

“I don’t think it's much benefit [to his hockey career],” said Tkachuk when asked about marathon Fortnite sessions. “But I mean we’re playing when we get back to the hotel. We got a little squad going, so I mean it’s good to get a bond like that.”

Fortunately for Tkachuk, Ottawa is not planning a Fortnite ban this season, even though the team had a worse season than the Canucks chalking up a record of 28/43 in the Eastern Conference. However, now that he’s in the pros, Tkachuk better be ready to prove that he belongs there.

Take up the mantle of Lo Wang a second time
By Cohen Coberly,
In brief: In true Good Old Games fashion, the company is handing out another well-received game for free: Shadow Warrior 2. The offer is good for the next 48-hours, and the game is entirely DRM-free and available for offline play or installation across multiple computers. No clients or third-party software are needed to give it a whirl.
If you haven't tried Wild Hog's fast-paced, adrenaline and joke-filled shooter/slasher action franchise Shadow Warrior yet -- published by Devolver Digital, of course -- now is the perfect time to do so.

While the first game will still cost you about $40, its sequel, aptly named Shadow Warrior 2, is now available at the low, low price of $0 on Good Old Games (GOG). If you've been a GoG user for an extended length of time, this probably won't come as a surprise.

As one of the most consumer-friendly storefronts out there, GoG regularly hands out game freebies, and virtually of the titles on its platform are entirely DRM-free and available for offline play. Shadow Warrior 2 fits both of those categories, and it's being handed out as part of GoG's 10-year anniversary celebration.

We've included some footage of the game above so you can see if it's your cup of tea, but given that it's free, you don't have much to lose by at least adding it to your GoG library.

If you decide to play it at some point in the future, there are two main methods of doing so. The first option is to download a "backup copy" of the game from the GoG website or the GoG Galaxy client. Once installed, this copy can be played at any time, with no need to be logged in to Galaxy. Furthermore, they can be installed across multiple computers, with no limitations that I'm aware of.

Alternatively, you can download it directly through Galaxy, unlocking achievements, an in-game overlay, and a few other features. However, like Steam, you typically need to be logged in to the client to play games this way.

You can give Shadow Warrior 2 a whirl right now by visiting its official GoG store page. The free offer is good for the next 48 hours.

Two titles that are way more interesting than October's offerings
By Cal Jeffrey, Today 3:43 PM
In context: The first Tuesday of the month is traditionally the day that Sony posts the PlayStation Plus freebies of the month. Last Tuesday was no exception as Friday the 13th and Laser League were put up on the PS+ page in the store.

However, in what can only be described as an “oops” on Sony’s part, this morning it briefly posted a graphic showing Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition and Yakuza Kiwami as the games for November. The image is supposed to act as an ad for PlayStation Plus, as you can see on the subscription page which now shows October’s games.

It is still possible for Sony to change its mind, and offer something else next month, but it does not seem likely that it would. It usually offers up games that need a little more exposure to drum up interest. Developers probably expect to see these games posted and would likely frown on last minute changes.

October’s headliners were, at least in my opinion, boring. Laser League and Friday the 13th, just don't appeal to me. However, there were three hidden gems offered gratis that I gladly added to my library.

The old-school cyberpunk adventure 2064: Read Only Memories is a fun little throwback to the 1980s and 90s adventure games like Gabriel Knight and Rise of the Dragon. Although it initially launched in 2015 on PC, developer MidBoss went with a retro 16-bit graphical style.

For a more comedic kick Rocketbirds 2: Evolution is available for free. I have not played it or its predecessor Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken, but it looked funny, so I figured I’d snag it.

The third freebie (or fifth if you want to include the lame headliners) is called The Bridge. It is an indy title that has gained a bit of praise and some criticism. It is a puzzle game done in black-and-white. Graphically it resembles M.C. Escher drawings and looks pretty bizarre. Editors' number one complaint about the game was its price. I think free fixes that problem.

Those should keep me busy enough until next month when (barring any change-ups) I’ll get my hands on Yakuza Kiwamin and Bulletstorm.
