A London woman called animal rescuers when she discovered a snake under the vacuum in her cupboard. Photo courtesy of the RSPCA
By Ben Hooper A London woman looking for a pair of shoes in a cupboard inside her apartment found something far more startling -- a snake.
Kasia Radochonska, who lives in the Southwark area of London, said she was going through the cupboard Feb. 16 when she spotted a snake slithering from under her vacuum cleaner.
"I opened the cupboard in my flat where I keep my shoes and other bits and bobs," she said. "I looked at the vacuum cleaner and noticed something red, like rope. Then it moved and I thought: 'Oh my god, it's a snake!'"
Radochonska alerted the RSPCA, which sent animal collection officer Joe Tambini to the scene.
"Kasia had been knocking on doors in her block to find out if anyone was missing a snake but no one claimed her. She was a bit cold so I took her to RSPCA Putney Animal Hospital where she was put in a vivarium to heat up," Tambini said.
The corn snake, nicknamed Mavis, will be moved to an RSPCA rehoming center if no one comes forward to claim her as an escaped pet.
"People are always surprised to hear that we actually get called out to collect lots of escaped snakes who have gone wandering around the neighborhood. They can slither out of their vivariums and into strangers' homes; we've even had some hide for months before coming out later, much to the householder's shock," Tambini said.

If you thought the willpower you harnessed to skip out on freshly baked cookies or the pizza your friends ordered was helping you lose weight, you might want to rethink that. It turns out even smelling those calorie- and carb-rich foods could be messing with your waistline.

According to a new UC Berkeley study published this week in Cell Metabolism, your sense of smell is linked to weight gain, possibly because the smell determines whether your body stores fat or burns it off.

“Sensory systems play a role in metabolism,” said senior study author Andrew Dillin, the Thomas and Stacey Siebel Distinguished Chair in Stem Cell Research and professor of molecular and cell biology. “Weight gain isn’t purely a measure of the calories taken in; it’s also related to how those calories are perceived.”

Researchers put mice into three groups — “super-smellers” that have a boosted sense of smell, those with a temporarily disabled sense of smell and a control group — and had them eat the same, high-fat “Burger King diet.”

The mice with the superior sense of smell gained the most weight, doubling in size, while those who couldn’t smell gained a maximum of 10 percent of their body weight. The control group gained less than the super-smellers, but more than the non-smellers.

This study points to a key connection between olfaction — our sense of smell — and to not only to appetite, but also to metabolism. Food you can’t smell likely gets burned instead of being stored as fat, while food that stimulates your nasal senses likely gets stored, hence the added weight gain. In other words, those who can’t really smell the beefy, cheese goodness of a Taco Bell Chalupa, are probably metabolizing it significantly better.

But that doesn’t mean you should go plugging up your nose to lose weight. Researchers pointed out that it’s common for people who’ve lost their smell sense due to old age, diseases like Parkinson’s or injuries to become depressed and stop eating.

Instead, using these new findings, science may be able to find a way to help “super-smellers” as well as those who have lost their sense of smell properly stabilize their metabolism. “If we can validate this in humans, perhaps we can actually make a drug that doesn’t interfere with smell but still blocks that metabolic circuitry. That would be amazing,” Dillin said. “For that small group of people, you could wipe out their smell for maybe six months and then let the olfactory neurons grow back after they’ve got their metabolic program rewired.”
What Do YOU Think?

Does it surprise you that your sense of smell could be so closely related to how your body metabolizes food? Will this study change the way you smell and eat? Do you think this study will be significant in the way obesity and eating disorders are treated?

Ok so just to warn you before you push play on this song, it's actually not a good tune.

The above track has been dropped by Burberry Perry, and it features the voice of Kylie Jenner.
If you want to hear Kylie, skip to around 2.40 as she comes in towards the end of the tune, speaking, not singing: "Jordyn, come on, I've never been on a song before! This is a [beeeeep]"
Weird, so so weird.

NAGASAKI, Japan, April 29 (UPI) -- A Japanese zoo showed off the jaw power of some real-life Hungry Hungry Hippos by demonstrating their ability to devour whole watermelons.
The video, posted to YouTube by the Nagasaki Bio Park, shows a keeper at the zoo tossing whole watermelons into the mouths of the hippopotamuses, which chomp down on the large fruits to explode them in a way that would make Gallagher's hammer envious.

One of the hippos appears able to devour the watermelon in a single bite without having to chew the smaller pieces.
"Learn how hippopotamus eat whole watermelon!" the video's description reads.

CAIRO A riot erupted in a Cairo suburb on Tuesday after a policeman shot three people after an argument over the price of a cup of tea, killing one of them, the Interior Ministry and witnesses said.

Public anger over allegations of police brutality has been bubbling over the past months, with several incidents spilling over into skirmishes and protests, five years after the ministry's officers were a major focus of the 2011 uprising.
One of the onlookers held up a bullet casing and accused the police of killing "poor" Egyptians.
A crowd quickly gathered, overturning a police vehicle and beating up another policeman at the scene, said a witness, who did not see the shooting but said he arrived at the scene in the well-to-do neighborhood of Rehab shortly afterwards.
"The Interior Ministry are thugs," chanted the crowd in a video sent to Reuters by the witness. Around 200 people were in the crowd, according to a Reuters estimate from the footage.
Rights activists say police brutality is widespread in Egypt and that there is a culture of impunity. The Interior Ministry says abuses are isolated and incidents are investigated.
Witnesses said on social media the argument on Tuesday was over the price of a cup of tea, which was confirmed to Reuters by security sources. The video, one of several shared by the witness, showed a man lying still on the floor surrounded by angry onlookers.
The Interior Ministry said in a statement that a policeman got into an argument with a vendor over "the price of a drink" and shot him dead, injuring two others in the process.
A judicial source told Reuters the policeman shot the three men with an assault rifle and fled. The victim died from a bullet to the heart, the judicial source said.
"There are clashes between the police and locals. Security forces brought in two riot police vehicles and an armored truck and the victim's family is here and pelting them with rocks," said the witness who sent the video and who declined to be named for fear of reprisal.
"Security forces are retreating and promising justice but the crowd is demanding police hand over the killer."
Anger over perceived police excesses helped fuel the 2011 uprising that ended President Hosni Mubarak's 30-year rule and began on a Police Day holiday. Since then, police have regained their power and human rights groups say they have returned to their old ways.
Public anger against police has surged again in recent months.
In February, a policeman shot dead a driver in the street in an argument over a fare, prompting hundreds to protest outside the Cairo security directorate. There were also riots in Ismailia and the southern city Luxor over the authorities' handling of at least three deaths in police custody in a single week in November.
Egyptian security forces have also faced scrutiny over the killing of Italian researcher Giulio Regeni in Cairo this year. Human rights groups say his death bears the hallmarks of Egyptian security agencies. Officials deny involvement.
"A hundred years of isolated incidents," wrote one commentator on Twitter.

The profession of snake charmers was outlawed in India in 2003
Jayanta Dey/Reuters
The BBC Pop Up has invoked the wrath of Indian twitterati over a question on snake charmers. The BBC asked: "Should India erase its snake charming culture to embrace modernity?"
The BBC Pop UP is a travelling bureau covering stories across India and its latest topic was snake charming. When criticism emerged against one of its promotional videos which showed Indian men charming snakes, the channel went on to investigate whether the snake charmers offend the country's cultural identity.
Amid a backlash from vibrant twitter users, BBC Pop Up issued a clarification and said no offence was meant. The practice of snake-charming was outlawed by the government in 2003.

The 37 year old who just had a baby in November, showed off her curvy post baby body as she modeled sexy lingerie from her line of Lingerie called Cocolicious. She posted these photos on her instagram with the caption:
'2016 I’m coming back with a vengeance,' '#personalgoals New CocoLicious Lingerie!!' 'Coming soon!! We took your suggestions & made my lingerie even hotter in the next collection! #cocolicious #candidphotos'. Another photo after the cut.

Lawmakers in Malaysia debate child marriages.
REUTERS
A Malaysian opposition lawmaker has suggested that allowing girls under the age of 16 to marry could resolve the issue of premarital sex amongst 'lustful' teenagers. Nik Mazian Nik Mohamad said that making it illegal for younger people to marry would not stop teenagers from having sex freely.
"Nowadays, kids under the age of 16 are already having sex and already have open sexual relationships. If we prevent them from getting married, these urges are still there, so they will be exposed to have sex freely and outside of marriage," he told Parliament.
Lawmakers were debating the legal age to marry in Malaysia - 18 years for Malaysians under civil law but 16 for Muslim girls. In addition to a lower age of marriage, Muslim teenagers under 16 may marry if they obtain permission from the Shariah courts.
Earlier Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin claimed that child marriages were being used as a solution to statutory rape and that girls were forced to marry their rapists. Another MP Teo Nie Ching agreed, saying that the practice exacerbated the trauma of the rape victims.
She noted how in Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, a 14-year-old girl married her rapist who was over 40 years old. The rapist was convicted in court and sent to jail.
"But what happens to the child. She married the main who raped her. That's why we need amendments to protect the rights of the child," Teo said.
Nik Mazlan however questioned whether there was coercion involved in the case involving the 14-year-old. He said that if the intercourse had been consensual, then it supported his claims that teens had sexual urges which he described as a "big problem".
In a written reply in Parliament, the Women, Family and Community Development Minister Rohani Abdul Karim said that the Shariah courts received more than 1,000 applications from Muslims for permission to marry minors last year. She did not say how many of the applications were given the green light.
The amended Child Act was passed in Parliament on 6 April but it failed to solve the rising problems of child marriages, FreeMalaysiaToday reported. It said the law instead focused on abolishing whipping and enforcing community service for child offenders and improving child protection through the National Council for Children and Child Welfare Teams.
The new amendments will see stricter penalties for child abuse and neglect cases, with the jail term doubled to a maximum of 20 years and fines increased as well. Details of all those convicted of any offence, in which a child is a victim, will be kept in the Register of Children.

Pope Francis holds a candle as he arrives to leads the Easter vigil mass in Saint Peter's basilica at the Vatican
Stefano Rellandini/Reuters
France has given up its bid to appoint gay ambassador Laurent Stefanini to the Vatican City. After months of delay, it has finally on 6 April named Stefanini as ambassador to Unesco, the Paris-based cultural agency of the United Nations.
French President Francois Hollande had initially nominated Stefanini as ambassador to the Holy See last year. The Vatican failed to confirm the posting for months, which French and Italian media attributed to his homosexuality.
Normally, a new ambassador's credentials are accepted within a month and a half. However, a prolonged official silence after a nomination is interpreted as a rejection.
Stefanini, who is currently Holland's chief of protocol, had the backing of Cardinal Andre Vingt-Trois, the archbishop of Paris for his nomination in January 2015 as France's envoy to the Vatican. Surprisingly, he had served in the French embassy at the Vatican City from 2001 to 2005.

It is not known if Paris will put forward another person for the post. However the Liberation newspaper had last year claimed that the government is unlikely to do so before the next French presidential election in 2017 after the Vatican failed to confirm Stefanini's nomination.
Last year, the French Catholic newspaper La Croix cited an unnamed source as saying that the Vatican considered it a "provocation" that France's socialist government had proposed a gay man for the post. France legalised gay marriages in 2013.
Although the new Pope Francis has taken on a more sympathetic and open manner with the gay community, he still maintains the Catholic Church's teaching on homosexuality. The Pope has said that he could not judge gay people with good will who were seeking God. He has also met members of a Catholic gay rights group in the Vatican.
Despite this, there has been no easing of current Church rules against gay marriages. There are also no signs that he plans to ease the Church's teaching that homosexual acts are sinful, even if homosexuality itself is not, Reuters reported.

According to The Mirror, Rahul Singh gave a statement just hours after the news broke of her apparent suicide at her home on Friday.
He told police: ‘We used to stay in a two bedroom flat. We had two keys; one key was with Pratyusha and the other was with me. When I entered the bedroom, I found Pratyusha hanging from the ceiling. I got very scared.’
Singh, who apparently left the hospital shortly after her death was announced, is said to have spoken to Pratyusha on the phone shortly before she hanged herself, according to Bollywood Life.
Pratyusha’s last Instagram post, uploaded six months ago, shows her and Rahul posing together shortly before starring on Indian reality show Power Couple together.

The Times Of India claim her last WhatsApp status was: ‘Marke bhi muh na tuzse modana’ translating to ‘Even after death won’t be turning my face away from you’.
India Today claims the star had been ‘depressed’ for the last two months, but the motive for her suicide remains a mystery.
Today the world has been mourning the loss of the young actress, who won over viewers through her role as Anandi, a grown-up child bride, in Balika Vadhu – and appeared in the seventh series of the Indian version of Big Brother, Big Boss.

Kim Kardashian still has nothing to wear.
Kim has stripped off again, this time with the help of model Emily Ratajkowski, to send another message about body confidence.
The reality TV star posed topless with Emily in the mirror for a very cheeky selfie, using strategically placed black bars to cover up.
And to show us that she really doesn’t care what we think of her antics, Kim flipped us all off while she pouted.
Emily also tweeted this to hammer the message home.
Emily said: ‘We are more than just our bodies, but that doesn’t mean we have to be shamed for them or our sexuality.
‘Even if being sexualised by society’s gaze is demeaning, there must be a space where women can still be sexual when they choose to be.’
Kardashian succeeded in breaking the internet when the shared a picture of herself completely naked staring in the mirror.

It sparked war of words between various famous women, including Bette Midler, Amber Rose and Miley Cyrus, as they passed judgement on the picture.

Presenting Bottled Instinct. It’s made using vaginal bacteria. (Picture: The Order of Yoni)
Hello, and welcome to 2016. A time when people have sex on hoverboards and you can purchase beer created from the essence of vaginas.
Yep. It’s real. Presenting Bottled Instinct. It’s beer. But made using vaginal bacteria.
Not just any vaginal bacteria, mind you. Lactic acid bacteria from the vagina of Czech model Alexandra Brendlova. Of course.
Created by vagina-themed start-up The Order of Yoni, Bottled Instinct is a beer that promises to capture the essence of femininity.
Its makers create it by taking bacteria from the vagina using a ‘gynaelogical stick’. This stick then goes to a laboratory, where the lactic acid bacteria are ‘isolated and cleaned’ then multiplied.
(Picture: The Order of Yoni)
That bacteria is then used in a culture starter kit, and is combined with water, malt, hops, wooden chips, and yeast to create the beer.
The Order of Yoni says the beer has ‘no vaginal smell or taste’, but it has been ‘flavoured with instincts’ and brewed with model Alexandra’s ‘lure’ and ‘grace’.
Which, you know what, is all well and good. Why not add the joy of vaginas into the fun of alcohol? Go ahead. We don’t judge.
But then you get to The Order of Yoni’s marketing.
On their Indiegogo campaign (yes, they’re trying to raise €150,000), The Order of Yoni suggests that by using a woman’s vaginal bacteria, their beer is like having a woman in beer form. By which we mean, yes, the entire campaign is very, very sexualised.
‘Imagine a woman of your dreams, your object of desire,’ reads the product description. ‘Her charm, her sensuality, her passion…
‘Try her taste, feel her smell, hear her voice… Imagine her massaging you passionately and whispering into your ear everything you want. Now free your fantasies and imagine that with a magic wand you can close it in one bottle of beer.’
(Picture: The Order of Yoni)
Ah. Yes. This bottle of beer will fulfill all of your sexual fantasies. Who need a woman when you can have sexy, sexy vagina beer?
There’s also the depressing standards for the vaginas The Order of Yoni uses for its beer production. A lot of time has been devoted to finding ‘the kind of a female whose pheromones will stay with you’.
Meaning a sexually attractive model that ‘personifies femininity, natural charm and lure.’
(Picture: The Order of Yoni)
The Order of Yoni also states that potential models offering up their vaginas for beer production will have to ‘sign a contract with high penalty for working in adult industry, sex industry, as adult actress, escort, prostitute, etc.’
Because having paid-for sex will affect the beer-making quality of a woman’s vagina bacteria. OBVIOUSLY.
If you’re not enraged enough yet, take a read through The Order of Yoni’s plans for future beers. If fully funded, they want to expand into BDSM ale, made use vaginal lactic acid bacteria of a woman with brown or red hair, and a blonde ale, using a blonde model’s vag.
(Picture: The Order of Yoni)
All of which makes us think that vagina beer isn’t actually about the beer-making benefits of vaginal bacteria. It’s just a very, very objectifying way to tell men they’re ‘drinking women’. It’s sexy, right?
Anyway. If you fancy contributing to the Indiegogo campaign, there are all kinds of perks on offer. €39 will get you a voucher for one beer and a branded glass. Other donations will get you signed posters of Alexandra Brendlova, The Order of Yoni polo shirts, and belts.
Oh, and if you donate €10,000, The Order of Yoni will make you a special beer using your girlfriend’s vagina. So romantic.

EXCLUSIVE: Why Megan Fox Is Sending Her Sons to a Technology-Free SchoolMegan Fox wants her sons to stay kids for as long as possible.
The actress has been outspoken about her views on technology's bad influence in the past -- even going on an explicit rant to ET on the set of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows last year about the dangers of social media. As Fox put it, "F**king parents should pay attention to that and have your kids off of it. You're not ready for that s**t when you're a teenager."
Now, Fox has opened up to ET again about social media, saying her feelings about it have very much impacted her parenting choices.
"My kids, in particular, I'm enrolling them in a school where technology is not allowed until they're much older," the 29-year-old star says. "Then they're introduced to computers and things like that, because they will need that eventually to function in the real world. But, as children, they shouldn't be around it at all, in my opinion, and so my kids won't have cell phones, or tablets, or any of that."
"It interferes with brain development," Fox continues. "I'm really big into this, very passionate about it. I'm very passionate about it, in general, because it's such a platform for, not just bullying, but body shaming, for making people feel badly about themselves, and Instagram has turned into… it's really just an art page where everyone edits their photos."
"It's a curated version of their reality," Fox adds. "What is the point? Unless you're promoting something, or unless you're selling something, I don't understand why teenagers need to be on Instagram making their boobs look big… what is happening to the world?"
ET caught up with Fox at Wondercon, where she was promoting the latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, Out of the Shadows. Fox promises the sequel will be much more kid-appropriate than the first film.
"We went in and rewrote stuff to make sure that 6-year-olds can understand the dialogue, so it's definitely more family-friendly," Fox says.
Fox confesses she didn't sign on to the franchise thinking, "I need to make a family film," but says she is thankful to have made a movie her kids can actually watch.
"It would be nice to make some things that they can see," Fox admits. "You know, something like Jennifer's Body, I'm not going to let them see for a long time. Something like Jonah Hex, I'm not going to let them see ever. No one should ever see that movie."
Still, when Fox's sons -- 3-year-old Noah and 2-year-old Bodhi -- do see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, there's no guarantee they'll recognize their mom.
"I mean, the oldest one is only three," Megan says. "He has no concept of -- he tries to understand that I'm in a movie, but at that age, they still think movies are real, so they don't understand the crossover between pretend and real life."

Leave it to the liberal college crowd to take a kindly gesture and politicize it. George and Laura Bush were recently out dining at a local eatery when the waitress asked for a pic, and the Bushes graciously complied. George also left the local college co-ed a hefty tip, but the waitress would do something so outrageous and disrespectful, people were left fuming. Chalk it up to the far leftist mindset gone wild.
As George and Laura Bush finished their meal at a local diner in Texas, the former President and his wife received a bill of $21.47. George, being the nice man he is, left the waitress a $40 dollar tip. Then, the waitress asked them if they would pose for a pic with her. They happily did it, before going on their way.
Later, the waitress posted the pic to Twitter with an insulting and disrespectful message:
Laura Bush (left), George Bush (middle), Waitress (right)
Social media users on Tweeter lashed out at the waitress, letting her know this was not at all the way she should repay kindness.
Then the waitress claimed she was only kidding:

After looking into this girl, we found that she is a Hillary lover, so we aren’t buying her “I really didn’t mean it” excuse. It was an inappropriate response to kindness. She also relates that she only thought her close friends would see the tweet. That only proves she meant it, and only after exposure did she become totally embarrassed.
We will give her only this, she is young. Hopefully, she will learn a big lesson from this. Maybe those friends she was tweeting it for will too. Today’s youth are so far to the left and brainwashed, they need a good kick in the ass. They need to wake up and learn what a gift it is to live in the best country in the world and the sacrifices many made so they could be free.
Bush Leaves Waitress Huge Tip, But Her Reaction Leaves People Fuming

Amanda Shea
Andressa Urach
Andressa Urach is no stranger to the spotlight, making quite a name for herself by showing off her unusual assets. After having disappeared from the scene for a short period of time, she’s reemerged with a shocking new change in her image, getting a lot of  attention on social media with her altered appearance, along with what she is seen doing in the recent photos.
Addicted to attention, Urach has used her body to gain worldwide notoriety for all the wrong reasons. What she lacked on the inside, she more than tried to make up for with what she looked like on the outside, through her exaggerated curves that she wasn’t afraid to show off. Just when the Internet thought they had seen every part of Urach, she recently showed them much more, after a short sabbatical from her scandalous antics.
The former Miss BumBum in Brazil has a new calling in life that nobody saw coming. Living a life of public nudity and selling her body for fame and fortune, Urach said was all a result of having been possessed by evil spirits. She traded in her pasties for a pair of khaki’s and a polo shirt, as she travels throughout her country preaching God’s word.
Urach fulfilling her new calling
After almost dying from botched bum fillers that essentially “rotted” in her body and caused a terrifying infection, Urach said she had an awakening about her purpose in life. Realizing that she was suffering internal torment for having sold her body as the result of sexual abuse as a child, the escort-turned-evangelist told the Daily Mail that she begged God for a second chance.
Urach after botched plastic surgery
“None of my money could help me then. I knew that my soul was condemned to hell. I begged God to forgive me, I wanted to have another chance to do things differently,” she said. Empowering her with His grace, God restored this woman, who has now made it her life mission to share that message with others suffering from the grip Satan has on their lives. Urach now spends her days speaking to female inmates throughout Brazil, about how they can change their life, just like she did.
“I want people to know what I know, that the devil really does exist, that the root of people’s problems is spiritual,” she said of her message, which she also hopes to spread throughout Africa some day soon. “After I managed to free myself, I saw that people need help.”
Of all the enormous alterations she’s made to herself over the years, it was the work God did to her on the inside that made her truly and authentically beautiful out the outside. That could have never been received in a plastic surgeon’s office. Her story is a true testament that God never gives up on us and is capable of making a miraculous change in all those who seek Him.
