Announcing West Virginia's first Covid-19 patient, Governor Jim Justice said: "We knew this was coming."
New York City said it was considering a lockdown similar to one in the San Francisco Bay area.
There have so far been 108 deaths in the US from coronavirus and more than 6300 confirmed cases nationwide.
Globally, there are about 200,000 cases and nearly 8000 people have died.
As the Trump administration seeks a $1trillion economic stimulus package, US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin reportedly warned Republican senators privately on Tuesday evening that if Congress failed to act, US unemployment could hit 20 percent - almost double the jobless rate during the Great Recession after the 2008 financial crisis.

What is New York City considering?

Mayor Bill de Blasio said he would decide within two days whether to order the city's 8.5 million residents to "shelter in place".
Such a move could largely confine people to their homes, while allowing them to make necessary trips to buy groceries or medicine, walk a dog or exercise as long as they avoid public interaction.
"It's a very, very difficult decision," de Blasio said. "We've never been here before. I have never heard of anything like this in the history of New York City."
Officials in the San Francisco Bay area have already ordered 6.7m residents to stay home for all but the most crucial outings until 7 April.

What role might the US military play?

US Vice President Mike Pence said the White House may call on the US military to establish field hospitals in virus hot spots if requested by state governors.
He told a White House news conference on Tuesday that the Army Corps of Engineers could be asked to set up field hospitals, known as Mash (mobile army surgical hospital) units, or help expand existing hospitals.
Pentagon chief Mark Esper said the US military would make available five million respirator masks and up to 2000 ventilators to the US health department.
He said the military would also open its 14 certified coronavirus labs to test non-military personnel.

What are the other latest US developments?

On Tuesday, Florida joined 11 other states in closing bars and restaurants in one of the most subdued St Patrick's Day celebrations the US has marked in peacetime.
Organisers of the Kentucky Derby - America's longest continuously held sports event - postponed the horse race until September.
It was the latest rite of spring to fall from the calendar because of the coronavirus, along with the Masters golf tournament, the March Madness basketball extravaganza and baseball season.
The country's largest enclosed shopping centre, the Mall of America in Minnesota, said it would close until the end of the month.
Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies were ordered to make fewer arrests to avoid jail crowding where the virus could spread.
Twenty-two people were infected with the respiratory illness at a nursing home in suburban Chicago.
Meanwhile, the US and Canada are reportedly finalising an agreement to suspend non-essential travel between the two countries and are expected to issue a statement in the coming days.

How is President Trump responding?

President Donald Trump - who is seeking re-election in November - told a press briefing on Tuesday afternoon that travel restrictions within the US were on the table.
"You can do a national lockdown," Trump said. "Hopefully, we're not going to need that. It's a very big step."
He also defended his tweet on Monday calling the infection the "Chinese virus", which his critics said was racist.
"It did come from China," he told reporters.
Trump also said on Tuesday of the outbreak: "I've felt that it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic."
Last month he struck a more optimistic tone, saying the US coronavirus outbreak "within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero".

"We will be, by mutual consent, temporarily closing our northern border with Canada," Trump tweeted.
He said trade would not be affected.
Both countries had already issued sweeping travel bans but had maintained exemptions for each other.
Canada relies on the US for approximately 75 percent of its exports.
The novel coronavirus has maintained a steady march throughout both countries.
In the US the virus has been confirmed in at least 6496 people across all 50 states. The number of deaths has reached 114.
Canada - which has about a ninth of the population of the US - has 598 confirmed cases and eight deaths.
The two leaders spoke on Wednesday to discuss the changes, Trudeau said.
"I want to be clear though that essential travel will still continue," he said at a press conference.
"No matter who you are or what you do, this is a time when you should be focused on your health and that of your neighbours. Not: are you going to lose your job, are you going to run out of money for food or medications.

Details of the final deal have yet to be released in writing but both leaders stressed cross-border trade will not be blocked.
Supply chains must be preserved so trucking would not be affected, Trudeau said. "That is something we remain committed to."
Approximately $US2 billion in goods and services crosses the US-Canada border each day.
Trudeau said Canadians who needed to travel for other "urgent reasons" would not be affected.
There is no set timeframe for how long the border closure will last.
Confirmed cases of Covid-19 worldwide have pass 200,000 and more than 8000 people have died.
Financial markets tumbled again on Wednesday as major stimulus plans failed to quell worries about the economic impact of the coronavirus.
The Dow led the declines in the US, falling more than 4 percent while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq dropped more than 3 percent.

EU entry ban hits travellers

In the European Union, countries have begun turning away travellers from outside the bloc.
Travellers from outside the EU are being turned away from airports and borders after the 27-country bloc imposed a 30-day ban to halt the spread of coronavirus.
A group flying in from Turkey was turned away from Germany's biggest airport in Frankfurt late on Tuesday, DPA news agency reports.
EU leaders agreed that internal borders that have been erected in recent days should come down.
Belgium is the latest EU country to introduce a lockdown for its 11.4 million citizens.
People have been urged to stay at home as much as possible and only essential travel will be allowed. Most shops will close, but physical activity is allowed as long as people respect social distancing.
The Swiss government has also told its citizens to stay at home, while Serbia has told over-65s to stay indoors and imposed a night-time curfew on everyone.
In another blow to the continent's normal life, the Eurovision Song Contest has been cancelled.
In the UK, schools in England are to close to all but children of essential workers, and schools in Scotland and Wales. The Glastonbury festival has been cancelled.

The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in the Pacific has risen to eight, with two more people testing positive on Guam.
Guam's health department has tested dozens of people since the first cases on the island were confirmed on Sunday night.
Tuesday's cases include a relative of one of those confirmed to have the virus on Sunday, and another person who recently travelled to the Philippines.
All five confirmed cases are in isolation.

Suspected cases

The Marshall Islands and Federated States of Micronesia say they both have one person each under investigation for Covid-19.
The person in the Marshall Islands is being quarantined at the US Army Garrison on Kwajalein Atoll, while a person in Pohnpei has also been sequestered.
The suspected cases follow the confirmation of the coronavirus in Guam and Hawaii - the two main entry points for both countries.
Meanwhile, the Marshall Islands has extended its ban on all incoming international travel for an additional two weeks. It has also banned domestic travel between Kwajalein and Majuro on United Airlines, because of fears people could be exposed to passengers on the Island Hopper service coming from Guam or Honolulu.
All states in the Federated States of Micronesia have now closed schools, while Marshall Islands schools remain open for now.

The first human trial of a vaccine to protect against pandemic Covid-19 coronavirus is starting in the US, according to reports.
A generic picture of a vaccine, needle.
Photo: 123RF
A group of 45 healthy volunteers will have the jab, at the Kaiser Permanente research facility, in Seattle.
The vaccine cannot cause Covid-19 but contains a harmless genetic code copied from the virus that causes the disease.
Experts say it will still take many months to know if this vaccine, or others also in research, will work.
Scientists around the world are fast-tracking research.
And this first human trial, funded by the National Institutes of Health, sidesteps a check that would normally be conducted - making sure the vaccine can trigger an immune response in animals.
But the biotechnology company behind the work, Moderna Therapeutics, says the vaccine has been made using a tried and tested process.
Dr John Tregoning, an expert in infectious diseases at Imperial College London, UK, said: "This vaccine uses pre-existing technology.
"It's been made to a very high standard, using things that we know are safe to use in people and those taking part in the trial will be very closely monitored.
"Yes, this is very fast - but it is a race against the virus, not against each other as scientists, and it's being done for the benefit of humanity."

Typical vaccines for viruses, such as measles, are made from a weakened or killed virus.
But the mRNA-1273 vaccine is not made from the virus that causes Covid-19.
Instead, it includes a short segment of genetic code copied from the virus that scientists have been able to make in a laboratory.
This will hopefully prime the body's own immune system to fight off the real infection.
The volunteers will be given different doses of the experimental vaccine.
They will each be given two jabs in total, 28 days apart, into the upper arm muscle.
But even if these initial safety tests go well, it could still take up to 18 months for any potential vaccine to become available for the public.

Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders blasted President Donald Trump's handling of the Covid-19 coronavirus outbreak during a Democratic debate today and offered competing visions of leadership during a widening crisis that has upended the daily lives of Americans.

In their first one-on-one debate, the two Democratic contenders to face Trump in the November election clashed on the proper approach to the pandemic and other pressing issues, with Biden arguing his approach to leadership would get quick results and Sanders pushing for bigger, more fundamental changes.
Biden, the front-runner in the Democratic race, promised for the first time during the debate to pick a woman as his running mate if he is the Democratic nominee.
"If I'm elected president, my Cabinet, my administration, will look like the country, and I commit that I will in fact appoint and pick a woman as vice president," Biden said.
Sanders was less willing to commit to picking a woman, saying that "in all likelihood" he would.
The debate came two days before the nominating contests in the big states of Ohio, Illinois, Florida and Arizona, where another string of Biden victories would give him a nearly unassailable lead in delegates over Sanders.
But hopes the debate would be a first step to party unity ahead of the 3 November election against Trump seemed to fade during the showdown, as the two candidates bickered repeatedly over their approach to leadership.
"People are looking for results, not a revolution," Biden said, taking a shot at Sanders' promises to lead a political revolution to sweep in his anti-corporate economic agenda.

Sanders, a democratic socialist senator from Vermont, said his long-standing support for sweeping economic and social reforms was actually proof of his ability to lead and contrasted it with what he said was Biden's sometimes shifting views.
"I don't have to rethink my position," Sanders said. "That's what leadership is."
Both candidates criticised Trump for his handling of the coronavirus outbreak, saying he had contributed to growing worries by spending weeks minimising the threat before declaring a national emergency on Saturday (NZ time).
The debate, originally scheduled for Phoenix, took place in a Washington studio with no audience, a move made to limit possible exposure to the virus - a sign of how deeply the campaign routine has been reshaped by the global pandemic.
When the two candidates took the stage, they smiled and shared an elbow bump - abiding by the advice of public health officials to avoid handshakes.

'Like a war'

Biden recounted his experience as vice president in President Barack Obama's administration in dealing with the Ebola outbreak in 2014. He laid out a coronavirus plan to make testing free and widely available, establish mobile sites and drive-through facilities in each state and provide more help for small businesses hurt by the resulting economic slowdown.
He said he was willing to call out the military to help local officials build hospitals and take other necessary relief steps.
"This is like a war, and in a war you do whatever needs to be done to take care of your people," Biden said.
Sanders suggested the first step in responding to the outbreak would be "to shut this president up right now" because he was undermining the response of public health officials.
"We have got to learn that you cannot lie to the American people. You cannot be less than frank about the nature of the crisis," Sanders said, adding the crisis showed the need for his signature Medicare for All healthcare proposal, which would replace private health insurance with a government-run system.
"Let's be honest and understand that this coronavirus pandemic exposes the incredible weakness and dysfunctionality of our current healthcare system," he said.
Biden has opposed the Medicare for All plan, saying it is too costly and he prefers to build on the Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare, by adding a public option for those who want it.
"That has nothing to do with the legitimate concern about income inequality in America. That's real. But that does not affect the need for us to act swiftly and very thoroughly and in concert with all the forces we need to bring to bear," he said.
Biden, 77, and Sanders, 78, have been forced to cancel public events and step off the campaign trail during the crisis. They said they were taking personal steps to stay healthy - avoiding crowds, washing hands and having their campaign staffs work from home.
Earlier in the day, Biden's campaign courted the progressive supporters of Sanders and Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, who dropped her White House bid earlier this month but has not endorsed anyone, by promising to back a Sanders plan to make public colleges tuition-free to families with incomes of less than $US125,000 a year.

5-6 minutes US President Donald Trump and other US officials appealed for patience as travellers returning to the United States over the weekend were met by long lines and massive delays at major airports so they could be screened for the coronavirus.

"Pardon the interruptions and delays," Trump said in a Twitter post. "We are moving as quickly as possible, but it is very important that we be vigilant and careful."
Authorities are conducting "very precise" medical screenings at airports, Trump tweeted, adding safety comes first.
His comments echoed those of officials from the Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection. They acknowledged delays caused by a new airport testing policy, but said it was necessary to protect Americans from the virus, which has rapidly spread around the globe.
The Trump administration last week imposed restrictions on travellers coming from continental Europe, and on Saturday extended the ban to Britain and Ireland. US citizens and permanent residents would still be able to return home, but would be funneled through specific airports, Pence said.
American Airlines said it plans to cut 75 percent of its international flights through to 6 May and ground nearly all its widebody fleet, according to the CBC.
It will cut nearly all flights to Asia, Australia, Europe, South America and New Zealand, while still operating two flights a day to London and just three to Tokyo.
"I understand this is very stressful," Chad Wolf, acting secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, said on Twitter. "We will be increasing capacity, but the health and safety of the American public is first & foremost."
  • If you have symptoms of the coronavirus, call the NZ Covid-19 Healthline on 0800 358 5453 (+64 9 358 5453 for international SIMs)

The medical screenings come in addition to the usual immigration and customs checks for travellers entering from abroad. They take about one minute each, Wolf said.
Conditions were improving at several airports by Sunday morning, Acting Commissioner of US Customs and Border Protection Mark Morgan said in a statement.
"Our goal is and remains to process passengers as safely and efficiently as possible," Morgan said.
Officials were responding to widespread complaints from passengers who said they had to wait on hours-long lines to enter the United States this weekend.
Some expressed concern that the long waits in heaving crowds could put them at greater risk of contracting the coronavirus, which causes the sometimes-deadly respiratory illness Covid-19. In the United States, the disease has infected about 3000 people and killed at least 59.
"Current wait time over 3 hours. Coughing and sneezing..." wrote Twitter user Jeffrey Barnett. He posted a photo of people waiting shoulder to shoulder at DFW International Airport in Texas on Saturday night.
Twitter user Sophie Bair posted a video of huge lines at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport the same evening, saying she had waited for four hours.
"Pics can't even capture the scale of this," she wrote. "We've had to wait in 3 different stages of lines."
The long waits prompted Illinois Democratic Governor J.B. Pritzker to take to Twitter on Saturday night to slam Republican US President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence for what he called their "unacceptable" handling of the situation.
"These crowds are waiting to get through customs, which is under federal jurisdiction," he wrote.
The concerns were shared by National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci, who said the crowded conditions at the airports were "not helpful" to efforts to contain the virus.
"I'm not going to make policy with you, but if you can possibly lessen that crowding one way or the other, we should do it," Fauci said on Sunday CNN's "State of the Union" program.

The US president decided on Friday to take the test for the virus, which has killed some 5,800 people worldwide, and received the negative result on Saturday evening, Conley wrote in a memo that was released by the White House.
  • If you have symptoms of the coronavirus, call the NZ Covid-19 Healthline on 0800 358 5453 (+64 9 358 5453 for international SIMs)
The test came days after the president stood next to a Brazilian official who was tested positive for the virus.
Trump was photographed at his private Florida club standing next to Fabio Wajngarten, the press aide to Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, when Brazilian officials visited last week. Wajngarten later tested positive for the disease.
"One week after having dinner with the Brazilian delegation in Mar-a-Lago, the president remains symptom-free," Conley said in his memo. "I have been in daily contact with the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and White House Coronavirus Task Force, and we are encouraging the implementation of all their best practices for exposure reduction and transmission mitigation."
Because of a US effort to slow the spread of the virus, which disproportionately kills older people, schools have been closed, museums shuttered and many employees have been urged to work from home to practice "social distancing".
The virus has killed more than 50 Americans. It has infected more than 154,000 people worldwide and killed some 5,800 since it emerged in China in December.

Trump made the announcement at a Rose Garden news conference.
Trump said he was declaring the national emergency in order to "unleash the full power of the federal government."
He urged every state to set up emergency centers to help fight the virus.
The declaration enabled the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to assist state and local governments and coordinate the US response to the crisis. The virus has killed 41 people in the United States.
In Washington, the Democratic-led US House of Representatives will pass a coronavirus economic aid package on Friday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said, but it was unclear whether Trump and his fellow Republicans would support it.
The package would provide for free coronavirus testing and two weeks of paid sick and family leave for those affected by the virus, Pelosi said.
Trump had faced criticism from some experts for being slow and ineffective in his response to the crisis and downplaying the threat.
Pressure has been mounting for Trump to declare an infectious disease emergency under the 1988 law that would allow the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide disaster funds to state and local governments and to deploy support teams.
The power is rarely used.
Former President Bill Clinton in 2000 declared such an emergency for West Nile virus.
Wall Street took a giant leap as Trump declared a national emergency.
After being nearly 3 percent higher a few hours ago, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 1600 points to 7.7 percent.

Hanks diagnosis sends shudder through HollywoodImage result for Hanks diagnosis sends shudder through Hollywood10-13 minutes
News of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson’s coronavirus diagnosis has sent shudders through Hollywood — not least because authorities believe the couple either caught the virus in the US or en route to Australia.
As local health officials scramble to track down everyone who came into contact with the couple on the Gold Coast, where Hanks was filming Baz Lurhmann’s Elvis biopic, and in Sydney and Brisbane where Wilson performed shows, similar scenes are playing out in Los Angeles.
The couple’s social media accounts show they rubbed shoulders with some of the world’s biggest stars — including Oprah Winfrey, the Jonas Brothers and Renée Zellweger — during a trip to LA before they tested positive for the virus in Australia.
Hanks and Wilson, both 63, were among seven people who tested positive for the virus in Queensland on Thursday. The state’s virus toll has since risen to 35, with eight new cases on Friday including Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton.
All seven diagnosed on Thursday had recently travelled to Australia from overseas, or were in close contact with someone who had, and it is believed they contracted the virus outside of the country.
On Thursday morning, Warner Bros released a statement saying a cast member on the Elvis film had tested positive for the virus and that precautions were being taken to ensure the safety of other crew members.
“We are working closely with the appropriate Australian health agencies to identify and contact anyone who may have come in direct contact with the individual,” the statement, which did not mention Hanks, said.
If the couple contracted the virus in the US, rather than on the flight back to Australia, it raises the possibility they were infectious while asymptomatic.
It is believed the incubation period of COVID-19 is between five and 14 days with an average of 5.1 days. However, there have been cases of patients developing falling ill up to 27 days after exposure.
WHERE HANKS AND WILSON WENT IN LA
On February 6, Hanks and Wilson flew back for the Oscars, where he was nominated for best supporting actor for his role in A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood.
The ceremony took place on February 9 — more than three weeks before the couple fell ill in Australia.
On February 28, Wilson was a guest of honour at a star-studded breast cancer fundraising extravaganza held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in LA.
“An Unforgettable Evening” raised more than US$1.8 million (A$2.86 million) for the Women’s Cancer Research Fund — a charity important to Wilson, a breast cancer survivor who underwent a double mastectomy and reconstruction in 2015.
She was photographed with some of the biggest names in the business, including musician Nick Jonas, actor Ken Jeong, designer and supermodel mentor Tom Ford and actor Renée Zellweger.
“LA, you blow me away with your generosity,” Wilson wrote on Instagram.
“We raised so much money for breast cancer research tonight! @wcrfcure @bcrfcure THANK YOU! @jonasbrothers performed and rocked the house. Everyone dancing! @nickjonas @joejonas @kevinjonas thank you so much!
“Our emcee, real life doctor and fantastic actor @kenjeong you’re the best! @tomford #richardbuckley you’re the most fun dinner partners #reneezellweger Your speech was so beautiful.
“Thank you for being our Woman of Courage recipient tonight. @mozellamusic @rodaworld so happy you we’re both there shining your lights! Let’s find a cure. We can never give up!”
It is not clear exactly when the couple returned to Australia but Hanks was snapped with fans on the Gold Coast on February 29 while his wife, who was still Instagramming from LA in early March, appears to have followed a few days later.
On March 1, Wilson posted a video of herself stuck in traffic on an LA highway en route to Oprah’s spoken word show.
“Riding on old town road to get to you but our horse is stuck in traffic,” she wrote, tagging the talk show queen in the caption.
In a bizarre twist, Winfrey lost her balance and fell over on stage mid-performance, although there is no indication the tumble was the result of an illness. The LA Time Espanol posted a video of the incident on its Instagram page.
WHERE TOM HANKS ND RITA WILSON WENT IN AUSTRALIA
Tom Hanks has been in Australia for several weeks filming Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley biopic.
He arrived on the Gold Coast on January 26 and has been spotted at several holiday hot spots across Queensland and New South Wales.
On January 29, he took a selfie with a fan on a Gold Coast beach. On January 31, he then waved to photographers as he strolled along the beach at Broadbeach.
On February 2, he dined at Mavis’ Kitchen & Cabins at Mount Warning. The next day he popped into Bon Bon bar at Mermaid Beach in February, where he took a fun photo with two young diners.
On February 6, Hanks flew back to the United States for the Oscars, where he was nominated for best supporting actor for his role in A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood.
He was then pictured back on the Gold Coast on February 29, taking a photo with two more fans.
On March 5, Wilson performed a concert in Brisbane at the Emporium Hotel in South Bank.
The luxury hotel is now taking “active steps” to brief its staff, general manager Charles Martin said.
“Extra hygiene precautions were already in place since the first international outbreak of coronavirus in January,” he told The Courier Mail.
Wilson and Hanks were then spotted enjoying a beer at the Bondi RSL in Sydney on March 6 before Wilson performed at the Sydney Opera House on March 7.
“Performing at this iconic place is unlike any other. And the warmth of the audience made me feel so welcome. Thank you from the bottom of my heart,” she wrote on Instagram, alongside a photo of herself next to the building’s famous steps.
More than 200 people attended the show and organisers said they were getting in touch with anyone who had close contact with the couple.
On March 9, Hanks and Wilson enjoyed a boat tour around Sydney Harbour, taking photos at Bondi Beach and again outside the Opera House.
Wilson also paid a visit to Channel 9’s studios in Sydney, where she performed and was interviewed by presenters David Campbell and Belinda Russell on the Today Extra show.
Campbell, Russell and all other staff members who had “prolonged” contact with the star have now been asked to self-isolate.
“Nine today has taken action in line with our crisis response plan around a visit to our studio by Ms Rita Wilson on Monday this week, for an appearance on Today Extra with David Campbell and Belinda Russell,” the network said in a statement on Thursday.
“Our actions are in line with the guidelines set out by the government and health authorities.
“Those who were in prolonged contact with Ms Wilson have been tested and are self-isolating for 14 days.”
Campbell told 2GB he did not shake hands with Wilson when she visited, and she had shown no obvious symptoms at the time.
“She came into the Today Extra studios on Monday and she was delightful and really nice and she didn’t have any symptoms of anything,” he said.
“She was cautious. She actually made a joke coming into the studios, saying we shouldn’t shake hands, we should bump elbows. So we bumped elbows.”
Tracy Grimshaw, who is recovering from surgery, had no contact with Wilson but did not host A Current Affair on Thursday night “as a precaution”, Nine said.
Wilson had her hair and makeup done in the same room Grimshaw uses as a dressing room, The Australian reports.
A total 126 cases of coronavirus have now been confirmed across Australia, with 64 in New South Wales, 18 in Victoria, 17 in Queensland, 8 in South Australia, 7 in Western Australia and 2 in Tasmania.
The majority of cases are reported to have had a “direct or indirect travel link” to countries including the US, UK, China, Iran and Italy, according to the Department of Health.
BEAUTICIAN GIVEN ALL CLEAR
A Sydney beautician says she’s been given the “all clear” by NSW Health after taking a selfie with actor Tom Hanks just days before he tested positive for the coronavirus.
“We can all breathe. I can’t deal,” Val Flores wrote on Facebook.
Flores ran into Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson at Mr Wong, a popular Cantonese restaurant in Sydney’s CBD, on March 8.
“Selfie done by Tom Hanks himself. Wow … Hollywood royalty in Sydney. Only people to have pics with Tom Hanks and his gorgeous wife Rita Wilson,” she wrote online, alongside two pictures of herself with the stars.
But just four days later, Hanks announced on Instagram that he and Rita had tested positive for COVID-19 after feeling unwell.
“We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too,” he said on Instagram.
“To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the coronavirus, and were found to be positive.”
Health authorities advise anyone who has been in close contact with an infected person to self isolate for 14 days. But close contact is defined as at least 15 minutes of face-to-face interaction or at least two hours in the same closed space, meaning Flores was given the all clear.
“All clear from NSW Health. Minor casual contact under 15 minutes, no body contact was made, and no symptoms,” she wrote on Facebook.
A spokesman for Merivale, which owns Mr Wong, said all staff that were “within one metre of Mr Hanks and his part” are in “self-isolation” and would not be back at work until it was deemed “appropriate”.
Meanwhile, celebrities including Tim Allen, Ellen DeGeneres, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Mia Farrow, rushed to wish the stars a speedy recovery.
“Woody, I should have made you two wear my space suits! You and Rita rest and get well!” said Allen, who played Buzz Lightyear alongside Hanks in Disney’s Toy Story.
“Wishing you both a speedy recovery, and sending lots of love,” DeGeneres said.
American comedian Whitney Cummings joked: “I mean Tom Hanks is who would play the guy in the movie about coronavirus.”
“It’s like it picked the celebrity we cared the most about to make a point,” she added.
Actor Jameela Jamil meanwhile praised Hanks for his “calm” announcement on social media.
“A calm and sensibly informative note from the man I wish was president. Hope they feel better soon, and glad they are in good, sanitised hands #Hanks2024,” she tweeted.
Hanks’ son Colin also moved to assure fans on Twitter that his parents were in good hands.
“My parents are receiving excellent care in Australia and are doing well (and in good spirits) given the circumstances,” he said.
“Despite the fact that I’m in LA and haven’t seen them in over three weeks, we have been in constant contact and am confident that they will make a full recovery.”

Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton has been diagnosed with coronavirus, just days after he met with Ivanka Trump and multiple high-ranking officials in the US.
Mr Dutton released a statement this afternoon announcing he tested positive for the illness.
“This morning I woke up with a temperature and sore throat,” he said in a statement.
“I immediately contacted the Queensland Department of Health and was subsequently tested for COVID-19.Mr Dutton met Ivanka Trump while on his visit to the US. Picture: Twitter
“I was advised by Queensland Health this afternoon that the test had returned positive.
“It is the policy of Queensland Health that anyone who tests positive is to be admitted into hospital and I have complied with their advice.”
Mr Dutton said he feels “fine” and will provide an update soon.
The Home Affairs Minister recently returned from Washington DC where he met with his “Five Eyes” counterparts, an intelligence alliance comprising of Australia, the US, UK, Canada and New Zealand.
A picture uploaded to Twitter shows Mr Dutton smiling next to Ivanka and US Attorney-General William Barr, along with other members of the Five Eyes.
He was in the US to finalise a deal with the White House to give Australian law enforcement better access to data held by US companies.
Several US politicians have quarantined themselves in recent days after coming in contact with COVID-19 patients.
The Brazilian president’s communications director tested positive just days after meeting with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort.
Despite that, Trump has no immediate plans to be tested or self-quarantine, the White House said.
Mr Dutton returned from the US last weekend and on Monday opened a campus of Southern Cross University at Moreton Bay.
Mr Dutton also attended a cabinet meeting with Mr Morrison and a number of key ministers in Sydney on Tuesday.
Despite this, the Prime Minister’s Office has announced that Scott Morrison or any other members of the Cabinets will need to self-isolate.
“The Minister attended Tuesday’s meeting of the Federal Cabinet in person and Thursday’s meeting of the National Security Committee via video link,” the statement said.
In advice provided to the Prime Minister this evening, the Deputy Chief Medical Officer has reiterated that only people who had close contact with the Minister in the preceding 24 hours before he became symptomatic need to self-isolate.
“That does not include the Prime Minister or any other members of the Cabinet.”
Mr Dutton missed his regular weekly spot on Nine’s Today show this morning, with host Allison Langdon announcing he was sick with a “stomach bug”.
Earlier Scott Morrison announced that parliament would go ahead as planned after cautioning against mass gatherings from Monday.
“I would consider Parliament essential, and it certainly will be when it resumes at the federal level, because we will be passing the many measures that relate to the economic stimulus package, as well as the health response that we have articulated this week,” Mr Morrison told reporters this afternoon.
“I think there will be issues to work through between now and then regarding public galleries and things of that nature. That’s just commonsense planning, and that will be done, as I’d imagine many venues will do the same thing.”

4 minutes Actor and filmmaker Corey Feldman hosted the premiere of his new documentary, (My) Truth: The Rape of Two Coreys, in Los Angeles on Monday.
EW.com reported Rosanna Arquette, Dave Navarro, Chris Kattan, Ron Jeremy and Jamie Kennedy attended the screening of the film, which alleges several powerful men sexually assaulted Feldman and his late friend, actor Corey Haim, when they were child stars in the 1980s and '90s.
TheWrap.com said the film was supposed to be available for pay-per-view streaming online at the same time it was being shown at the Directors Guild Theater, but the digital debut was canceled when the website crashed.
Feldman, who posted a smiling selfie from the packed theater, at first celebrated the moment suggesting this was because so many people were interested in his film, which cost $20 to watch online.
But Fox News said Feldman later blamed the glitch on hackers who don't want people to view the documentary.
"I hope [the film] gives other victims the strength to come forward. Because there's gotta be a tidal wave right now. We need a tidal wave of justice. We need a tidal wave of truth. We need a tidal wave of courage," Feldman told the audience at the screening. "The truth must survive. Children must be saved."
The documentary features Feldman repeating on-screen claims that actor Charlie Sheen raped Haim on the set of their 1986 film Lucas.
It also includes testimony from Feldman's ex-wife Susie Sprague and mutual Feldman-Haim friend Jamison Newlander recalling how Haim told them Sheen raped him when he was 19 and Haim was 13, Rolling Stone said.
Sheen and Haim's mother, Judy, have long denied the allegations, and Sheen sued the National Enquirer tabloid in 2017 over a report it published about the accusation.
He denounced the story at the time as "twisted lies."
After the documentary screened he issued another denial.
"These sick, twisted and outlandish allegations never occurred. Period," Sheen's representative told TheWrap.com Tuesday. "I would urge everyone to consider the source and read what his mother Judy Haim has to say."
Haim died of pneumonia in 2010. He was 38.
Feldman also said in The Rape of Two Coreys that former nightclub owner Alphy Hoffman, former talent manager Marty Weiss and actor Jon Grissom sexually abused him as a child.
Weiss and Grissom have also denied the allegations.
As of Tuesday morning, the film was still not available to stream online.
"I giv u my personal guarantee that everyone will get 2 c the film! Even if i havta butn DVDs and send them 2 each of u! Nothing will keep #MYTRUTHDOC from coming out! This is insane! Please pray 4 us!" Feldman tweeted.
"The site stopped selling tix, and I am waiting 4 their staff to wake up on East Coast. I will update all of u as soon as I know if the film will still stream 2day! This whole thing is sabotage of the highest order!" he added.
Feldman and Haim were longtime friends who starred in a string of teen blockbusters, including The Lost Boys, License to Drive and Dream a Little Dream. They also starred in the docu-series The Two Coreys, which ran two seasons in 2007-08.
Sheen went on to star in the TV sitcoms Spin City, Two and a Half Men and Anger Management.
He battled addiction for years and has largely stayed out of the spotlight since announcing he was HIV positive in 2015.

The virus, which the World Health Organization has labeled a pandemic, continued to spread widely across the United States, prompting event cancellations, bans on large gatherings, and federal warnings urging Americans to reconsider travel abroad. Trump called off his domestic travel and postponed a rally and fundraising event, while the NBA suspended its season after a player tested positive.
Elsewhere, Saudi Arabia followed the U.S. measures by announcing its own travel ban on Europe, while Italy remained under an unprecedented national lockdown. In Asia, however, the impact on daily life was easing as workers gradually return to offices and major tourist attractions reopened. China’s National Health Commission said the country had passed the peak of the epidemic.
Here are the latest developments:
  • More than 1,300 cases have been reported in the United States, with at least 38 deaths, including five new fatalities reported on Wednesday. Upward of 44 states and the District of Columbia have said they are treating coronavirus patients.
  • Rules enforcing “social distancing” are going into full effect, as officials in California, Oregon and Washington state announced bans on gatherings of more than 250 people, the most far-reaching measures yet. Meanwhile, the NCAA announced that its college basketball tournaments will be held without fans in attendance.
  • The World Health Organization declared the coronavirus a pandemic on Wednesday, as its director general warned of “alarming levels of spread and severity” as well as “alarming levels of inaction.”
  • Actor Tom Hanks said he and his wife, actress Rita Wilson, have tested positive for the coronavirus in Australia.
