Sacked Imo LG bosses resume duties

There was confusion  yesterday at the various local government council secretariats in Imo State as the  sacked council bosses returned to their duty posts amidst tight security. The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Adoke, on Tuesday had ordered the state Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha to comply with the judgment of the Court of Appeal by reinstating the sacked chairmen and councilors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Daily Sun reported that the Appeal Court, on July 5 described the dissolution as illegal, null and void and of no effect. A visit by our correspondent to some of the local government headquarters, particularly Owerri municipal, Owerri North, Owerri West, Ngor Okpala and Njaba were under lock with armed policemen stationed in front of the gates.

At  Owerri North Local Government Area, the Transition Committee Chairman, Mr. Ololo was booed and chased out of council premises by aggrieved staffers when he arrived for the day’s work while the sacked chairman, Dr. Eric Ogwo was received with loud ovation by  staffers as he arrived with armed policemen as well as  party supporters.

The state government, as a panic measure, had ordered the Director of Administration and General Services (DAGS) and treasurers of the councils to proceed on three days French leave, possibly not to have any contact with the reinstated council chairmen.

The Chairman of Owerri Municipal Council, Chief Emma Odor, who assumed office yesterday with his councilors and supervisors said they were ushered into the council premises by the Divisional Police  Officer (DPO) in the Municipality
