Governor Godswill Akpabio has denied receiving a dime from ExoonMobil as part of the N26.5 billion approved as compensation for some communities in Eket Federal Constituency. The allegation that the state government collected part of the money leaving a paltry sum of N2.6 billion to the oil company to offer to the community resulted in a protest by the youths of the four local government areas making up Eket Federal Constituency.
Apart from the intractable peaceful protest, which lasted till last Tuesday when the state government intervened and negotiated its suspension, the paramount ruler of Esit Eket, Edidem Ubom Assam, was also kidnapped.
