Edo police kill seven suspected armed robbers

Sanda
Some policemen of Edo State Police Command have killed seven suspected armed robbers along the Benin by-pass.
Two of the suspected armed robbers were killed on Saturday night, while five others were killed on Sunday. One other suspect, who identified himself as Sanda, was arrested.
Sanda, who had bullet wounds, one on the abdomen and another on the right thigh, said the gang operated in the area because it served as nexus of roads going into or leaving Edo State from other parts of the country.
The suspected robber, who claimed to be from Kebbi State, said it was his first time of joining the gang to terrorise people along the road.
The Police Commissioner, Foluso Adebanjo, warned criminals to steer clear of the state.
Adebanjo said other members of the gang hit by police bullet during exchange of fire were still hiding in the bush and would be apprehended.
He said, “We had an operation at the by-pass. As you know, it leads to very many places inside and outside the state. We noticed that a lot of incidences of armed robbery happen around that area. So we planned an operation. Last night, two robbers were killed in an encounter with the police.
“Early this morning, we engaged them again and this is the result of what you are seeing right now. We still have others who are still there; we are still going back to the bush to engage them. The war against hoodlums in Edo State is continuous. We will not allow hoodlums in the state.”
Some of the items recovered from the gang include one AK-47, cutlasses and an assortment of charms.
