Man goes berserk, beheads three persons in Ebonyi

Agbabo Isu in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State was on Tuesday soaked in tension as a middle aged man, Mr. Emeka Okoro from the Agbabo Isu community allegedly beheaded three persons.
The incident threw the community into confusion and mourning as the killer took to his heels after perpetrating the act. He has however been arrested by a team of policemen from Onicha Divisional Police Station, Ebonyi State.
Confirming the incident, the Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Chris Anyanwu, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) said that information gathered by the command indicates that there was growing tension in the area adding that effort was been made to ascertain the remote and immediate cause of the incident and to ensure continued peace in the community.
He explained that though he was yet to get details of the act, signal from the Onicha Police Division indicated that the suspect has been arrested and detained at the police station.
He said that a team of policemen from the command headquarters would be deployed to the community immediately to forestall any break down of law and order.
In a telephone interview with the Coordinator of Onicha Development Center, Hon Ogbonnaya Igboke, he regretted Okoro’s action saying that the victims included Messrs Peter Awoke from Umuniko Isu, Sunday Nwaigwe also from Umuniko Isu and Ega of Agbabo all in Onicha Local Government Area of the State.
Igboke disclosed that the suspect first attacked Nwaigwe, a cattle rarer in his farm while feeding his cattle at about 2pm before attacking the two other men.
Igboke noted that after the incident, villages and relations of the deceased attempted to retaliate by lynching the suspect before the police from the Divisional Headquarters arrested him.
He stated that corpses of the victims have been deposited at the Onicha General Hospital mortuary adding that effort was being made by the police and other security agencies in the development center to ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order in the place.
Meanwhile, a Non Governmental Organisation, Center for Democracy (CD) has called on the security agencies especially the police to ensure proper investigation of the crime and to bring the perpetrator to book.
The State Coordinator of the organisation, Comrade Ogbonnaya Onu regretted the dastardly act saying that high level of unemployment and frustration must have led to such act and urged the State Governor, Martin Elechi to create job opportunity for the teeming youths in the state.
