At the state secretariat, Nnorom Street Abakaliki, some of the civil servants who expressed shock over the death also expressed thanks to God for giving the legend the opportunity to see the liberation of his people and the privilege to be the first elected president of South Africa.
The governing board chairman, Ebonyi State University and former minister for education, Dr. Igwe Aja-Nwachukwu, described his death as a global tragedy of immense proportion.
According to him, “that Mandela is dead will form public discuss for a period of time.
The death of the Mandela is a global tragedy of immense proportion. It represents the demise of an icon while his death is the end of an era. The world has lost a dynamic leader and a protagonist of positive change.”
Aja-Nwachukwu said that though death is a debt which all mortals must pay, Mandela’s accomplishments transcend mortality and urged the people of South Africa to take solace in his achievements while on earth.
