Rivers House of Assembly remains closed – Rivers State Police Command

Rivers House of Assembly remains closed – CP
From TONY JOHN, Port Harcourt
The Rivers State Police Command has said that the state House of Assembly remains closed till further notice. The order was contained in a press release issued Friday evening signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Muhammad, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).
Muhammad said the closure of the Assembly was sequel to a notice of appeal and motion for stay of execution of the judgment filed the same day the judgment was given.
“The implication is that the matter of re-opening the Rivers State House of Assembly is now subject to litigation in the Appeal Court.
“Accordingly, the Rivers State House of Assembly remains closed until the motion of stay of execution is determined or vacated. This has become imperative in order to preempt or undermine the judicial process.
“Consequently, the Commissioner of Police has written to the Clerk of the Rivers State House of Assembly to inform the Honourable members to stay away from the Assembly complex and stop parading themselves under the guise of oversight functions.
“The command wishes to restate that it will always abide by the rulings, made by any court of competent jurisdiction, please.”
