A 31-year-old man identified as Adebowale Gabriel and his dog have been arraigned for biting a banker’s genitals at Idowu Anisere Street, Ikotun, Lagos State.
Man and dog were arraigned before Mrs. M.B. Folami at the Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, with the dog specifically charged for assault, while Gabriel was charged with negligence under the Criminal Code.
LEADERSHIP FRIDAY understands that the arrest of Gabriel and his dog was in response to a formal by the victim, one Simon Anwam, to the Ikotun Police Division, that while he was taking a stroll, the dog pounced on him, inflicting a deep injury on his genitals
While narrating his encounter with the dog and its owner, Anwam revealed that he was almost home from work when the dog jumped on him and bit him on his genitals before he was rescued.
Anwam further disclosed that though his trousers were soaked in blood, he only discovered that he had “serious injuries” on his genitals after he rushed home and that since the incidence, blood always flows from his genitals whenever he is pressed to urinate.
Anwam also said that medical experts at the general hospital on the Lagos Island where he was referred by a private hospital declined to treat him by fixing a pipe to his urinary tract to help him pass urine painlessly.
The dog-owner, Gabriel told the court that he had pled with Anwam and his wife to let him pay the medical bill before the police charged him to court.
Though the matter was mentioned in court, the prosecutor, Mr. Nicholas Atumonye, told the court that both parties had agreed to settle out of court.
