ONE person was shot dead and three others seriously injured as two foreigners working with a construction Company in Akungba Akoko area of Ondo state were abducted by four armed men.
A police officer simply identified as Olajide was one of those shot by the kidnappers and presently on admission in an undisclosed hospital.
The corpse of the person that died as a result of the gun shot has been deposited at the hospital mortuary while others are responding to treatment.
The foreigners who are working with Charvet Construction Company in the town were abducted while on site at state government owned University-Adekunle Ajasin University in Akungba Akoko.
Vanguard gathered that the foreigners who are from Syria were supervising the construction of the University’s senate building.
In an attempt to get away, the kidnappers allegedly shot into the air and in the process the four persons were shot.
Eyewitness account said the kidnappers came to the university premises in a Mercedes Benz Car.
They reportedly in a commando like abducted the expatriates who were in a ‘ white colour Nissan Xterra Jeep marked KTU 705 AL,
It was learnt that they shot the driver in the leg and whisked the expatriates to an unknown destination.
Contacted the Police Image Maker Wole Ogodo confirmed the incident.
Ogodo however pointed out that the Nissan Jeep which the kidnappers used as their get-away vehicle has been recovered by the Police.
The Police Spokesman explained that the kidnappers stormed the University premises and started shooting sporadically into the air.
He said four persons including a police officer were injured in the shoot out that took place when the kidnappers arrived the scene to abduct the expatriates.
According to him the shot policeman who is attached to the Ikare Division and three other who were shot are responding to treatment in various hospitals.
He denied that the shot policeman had died as a result of the injury he sustained in the shoot out.
According to Ogodo the abductors abandoned the Mercedes Benz they came with and escaped with the expatriates Nissan Jeep, three handsets and N400,000
He assured that the foreigners would soon be freed and their abductors brought to book.
Also, the University’s spokesman, Sola Imoru confirmed that the police has been informed of the ugly incident.
He was quick to assure the University Community that the situation has been brought under control and that there was no cause for alarm.
