Are we hearing this right or...? ::|:: A group of northern elders under of the umbrella of Northern Elders Council (NEC) on Thursday openly declared to support President Goodluck Jonathan come 2015. By this declaration of NEC, it is now clear that the northern elders are divided over Jonathan’s move to contest the 2015 presidential election.

The new Northern Elders Council, led by Tanko Yakasai, said it was formed to provide a platform for robust and constructive intervention in the socio-economic and political development of the north.
Speaking at the NEC inaugural meeting held at Arewa House Auditorium, Kaduna, the National Chairman, Yakasai, said the council has decide to support Jonathan and Namadi Sambo’s visionary and transformational policies .
Yakasai, who until now, was a member of Northern Elders Forum (NEF) that has always kicked against Jonathan’s presidential bid, made a u-turn on Thursday when he suddenly led the new Northern Elders Council to declare support for Jonathan .
In a communique issued after its inaugural General Assembly meeting, the northern group stated, “NEC pledges its full support and commitment to work for the success of President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo.”
It added: “We applaud the excellent working relationship between President Jonathan and Arc. Namadi Sambo, the Vice President and political leader of the north, and urges them to continue to work together in harmony.”
