The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, Mr. Saidu Madawaki, on Tuesday said the command had arrested a 60-year-old herbalist, Shuaibu Sanni, and his accomplice, Yahaya Mustapha, for allegedly abducting a three-year-old boy, Emmanuel Sunday.
The CP, while parading the suspects in Lokoja, said the victim had on Sunday gone to a church service at the Christ Apostolic Church, Usunagwe in Okehi Local Government Area with his grandmother, Esther Elijah.
Sunday was said to have become thirsty in the course of the service. Elijah was said to have consequently asked her granddaughter, Blessing Lawal, to get some water for Sunday to drink.
It was learnt that while Lawal and Sunday were going for the water, Mustapha suddenly grabbed Sunday and started running.
However, Mustapha ran out of luck as Lawal raised the alarm which attracted people who chased him.
The victim was said to have been rescued while the abductor fled.
Madawaki stated that Elijah reported the incident at Okehi Police Division.
The CP said following a tip off, the police arrested Mustapha, adding that during interrogation, Mustapha implicated his accomplice, Sanni.
According to the CP, Mustapha confessed that the herbalist had asked him to abduct the victim.
He said the police later arrested the herbalist.
The CP also paraded 10 other suspects who were arrested for various offences such as armed robbery and car theft.
One of the suspects, Salihu Adekunle, was alleged to have stolen a Toyota Corolla car.
He said the driver of the car was sent on an errand with N72,000, when he absconded with the vehicle and the money.
“The vehicle was later intercepted at check point in Okene 10 days later,” he said.
