Imo State Government yesterday suspended the commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development from the activities of the state executive council.
No reason was given for the immediate suspension of the commissioner. A statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Anthony Anwuka stated that the commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Mma Love Onyechere has been suspended indefinitely from the activities of the State Executive Council.
The Commissioner for Primary and Secondary Education, Dr Uche Ejiogu was mandated to take over the running of the ministry temporarily. The SSG said the decision to suspend the commissioner was taken after the weekly executive meeting, which was presided over by Governor Rochas Okorocha.
However, it was reliably gathered that the suspension of the Commissioner may not be unconnected with the altercation between the commissioner and a member of the Local Government Commission during the APC registration exercise last week in Uhube, Okigwe.
The source told Daily Sun that the commissioner had allegedly slapped the Local Government Commission member during a heated argument during the APC registration exercise.
“ The commissioner was alleged to have slapped a member of the Local Government Commission during a quarrel between the two during the APC registration last week in Uhube and when the matter was reported to the governor he was not happy about the situation.”
