Valentine’s Day enjoyment ended on a tragic note for a middle-aged man who was shot dead last Friday evening by an unidentified soldier in Ede, Osun State. The deceased whose identity could not be ascertained as at press time was said to be relaxing with his lover at a cool spot close to the palace of the Timi of Ede at the market square in Ede about 8.00pm when he was gunned down.
Although details of his killing were sketchy, it was learnt that the soldier allegedly trailed the deceased to the location where he was relaxing and shot him dead.
A source in Ede hinted that the soldier who allegedly shot the deceased could have mistaken him for another person as he stated that there was no circumstance that could have warranted his killing at the spot.
The incident sparked tension in the town with some youths reportedly attempting to lead a protest march to the Army Engineering Construction Regiment, Military Barracks, Ede but were later dissuaded by their kinsmen. The incident had been reported at the Ede Police Division.-
