National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh, yesterday, denied insinuations that he was contemplating resigning his position as National Chairman of the party.
Speaking through his Special Assistant (Media), Mr. Stan Okeke, Umeh stated that by the APGA National Convention of February 10, 2011, the present national leadership of the party was elected for another four years.
Apparently reacting to reports in the national dailies that he would resign his position to contest for the senatorial seat of Anambra Central, he explained that the tenure of the national chairman would elapse on February 9, 2015.
Okeke stated: “Even if the National Chairman, Chief Victor Umeh, decides to contest any election in 2015, the constitution of the party does not require him to resign from his present office so as to contest in the election.
“A person holding a party office would be deemed to have resigned his office if he/she is elected to the executive or legislative arm of government.
“The story is false in its entirety and it is the handiwork of people desperate to cause confusion in the party and therefore, should be ignored.”
