Unknown gunmen yesterday kidnapped a brother to the Wife of former governor of Ebonyi State, Mrs. Ukamaka Egwu, Mr. Kennedy Ogba, in his Nsuruakpa residence in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered that Ogba, a former member of Ebonyi State House of Assembly between 2007 and 2011, was kidnapped by four gunmen when he was coming back from the burial of the wife of his church member in the area.
Ogba, who is the immediate elder brother to Mrs. Egwu, represented Ohaukwu South in the state House of Assembly and had served as chairman of Ohaukwu local government.
A family source told Sunday Sun that they saw the kidnappers almost at the entrance gate of the victim’s compound, when they were returning from the burial, but never suspected that they were trailing them for their evil act.
He said the kidnappers quietly followed the victim and perpetrated their evil plot when he was about to enter his house. “Four of them were strange faces. They were not masked. We met them when we were coming from a burial, but we never suspected that they were in for such an act.
When the four of them came into the compound, we were sitting within the gate. But because our boss is a jovial and simple man, who does not allow anybody to question his visitors, we never cared to ask them what their mission was. When we later observed strange things happening, we rushed at them but they subdued us with their guns, collected our phones and veered off with his car,” the man who witnessed the scene narrated
The Chairman of Ohaukwu Local Government, Mrs Chinyere Elom, has confirmed the incident, adding that the kidnappers had established contact with the family with an unknown number for a few seconds before the phone went off. According to him, the victim’s number has been switched off.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) Chris Anyanwu, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), who also confirmed the incident, said he was expecting official briefing from the DPO of Ohaukwu Local Government.
