BLOCKED OFF: Police have cordoned off Clark St in Khandallah, Wellington.
An armed suspect is on the run and another has been arrested after a failed attempt to hold up a security van at The Warehouse in Wellington.
Armed police cordoned off part Khandallah today as they hunted a suspect following an armed holdup outside the Warehouse in Lyall Bay.
A police central communications spokesman said the call came in at about 2pm that an armed man had tried to hold up an ACN cash carry security van at the store.
One man sat in a car while the other, who was carrying a firearm, approached the security van and demanded money.
The occupants of the van refused and the pair fled the scene empty-handed in their car, the spokesman said.
Police were called to the scene and found the security vans' occupants uninjured but "shaken," the spokesman said.
Then, after 3pm police found a car in Box Hill matching the description of the one seen leaving the Warehouse incident.
A man was located and arrested near the car and police continue to search for the second suspect. The firearm has not been located yet, the spokesman said.
Witnesses said Clark St in Khandallah was cordoned off for a time.
Police are urging any witnesses to come forward, particularly if they have seen a white Mazda Capella car with license plate DUG642 around 3.30pm today in the Khandallah area.
The vehicle was a 1998 make and was stolen.
Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Olivia Gibson at Wellington Police on 04 381 2000 or provide details anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
