After scoring the tying goal late in a gruesome match, a soccer player attempted to perform a popular celebration when it went tragically wrong and led to his death.
According to MailOnline, Peter Biaksangzuala scored the goal for Bethlehem Vengthlang FC, an Indian soccer team, and attempted an acrobatic celebration. But when the 23-year-old misjudged the landing of his backflip, his head hit the ground first and critically injured his spinal cord.
Biaksanguala was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he spent five days in an intensive care unit. On Sunday, the young footballer succumbed to his tragic injuries after being placed on a ventilator.
“He was trying to do Germany’s Klose signature flip stunt, but it misfired unfortunately,” a source close to the team said.
The midfielder’s team retired his jersey to honor him, posting a message to their Facebook page that read:

It has been a sad day for Mizoram football and the demise of the footballer shook his team-mates, footballers and fans alike all over Mizoram.
Peter was a defensive midfielder who had always been aggressive and hard working, a true team player. Like most defensive midfielders, he was excellent at reading the game, breaking up attacks and protecting his defenders.
Peter’s club Bethlehem Vengthlang FC will retire his jersey no. 21.”
