Infant Trapped Under Dead Dad’s Body For Days Makes It

A 10-month-old Louisiana girl was trapped under her dead father’s body in the parent’s bed for three days and miraculously managed to survive the ordeal.

The infant, Betty Jean Fields is said to be doing well and recovering at University Health in Shreveport despite being underneath the decomposing body for nearly 72 hours, according to Sabine Parish Deputy Coroner Ron Rivers.
Jason Fields, 43, was home alone with the infant and his 5-year-old son, when he suddenly passed while sitting in bed with the baby — falling right on top of her. The father had a history of cardiac complications and was presumed to have died as a result, Shreveport Times reported.
The girl suffered from blistering skin, dehydration, and also had a noticeably dark indentation on the right side of her forehead that Rivers believes to be the result of the child being wedged against the wall and under her father’s dead body, according to the Time’s report.

The horrific scenario was discovered after Betty Jean’s young brother alerted neighbors that he thought his father might be dead. The concerned neighbor contacted Sabine police and sent them to Fields’ residence where they discovered the father’s body in advanced stages of decomposition on top of the baby girl.
The report indicated that the home had maintained an interior temperature of approximately 100 degrees and box fans were the only source of cooling.
The children’s mother who lived in the home, had been incarcerated at a local jail at the time of the tragic incident on unrelated charges, but she was released a few days short of her full sentence so she could care for the children.
