Technology
is important to an entrepreneur. That is a given. But when corporations
develop products that help push entrepreneurs to their ultimate goal –
visibility and networking opportunities – for the entrepreneurs to
connect with their consumers/customers, that indeed is remarkable.
At the Google exclusive demo event last week Tuesday, which Entrepreneurship+ was a part of, we were also shown how some new products work and today, I am going to be talking about Google My Business.
For those who have seen GT Bank’s SME MarketHub, they will realise that Google My Business share some similarities - like placing your business on the map. But that’s where the similarities ended.
With Google My Business, you, the business owner, are directly connected to your customers, whether they’re looking for you on Search, Maps or Google+.
Now, this is why I like the product. The power and m
ight of Google. Google is arguably the number one search engine in the world. Forget what others say. Google has millions and millions and millions of people using its search engine every second! Imagine that sheer number and the possibility of a fraction of them seeing your products.
And it is FREE. I mean you can place your products, as many of them on Google My Business without a charge. For me, this is an avenue for free publicity, PR and advertising. What SMEs doesn’t need that?
It is social. If you’re someone like me who doesn’t do formal so much, you will find Google My Business very useful. Also, the feeling of real life and instant connectedness with your customers gives your product an instant edge. By sharing what’s new and responding to customer feedback as you receive it, you don’t only get your business closer to your customers, you get to build lasting relationships.
My favourite part of Google My Business is the Hangouts! It isn’t just enough to make posts, give updates and all; human nature craves a face-to-face interaction. And with Hangouts, you can connect, through face-to-face video, with your customers, whether they’re nearby or miles away. According to Google, “from announcing a customer appreciation event to showing off your latest product, it’s easy to reach out and talk with customers around the world.” You like that, don’t you? I know I do.
How to get on Google My Business
How do you actually get on Google My Business? I found there are two routes that can get you there.
You can either sign in or click on Get on Google on the right side on your screen. If you click on sign in, it takes you to Get Your Page. Once you get your page, you’re asked to Choose a business type. You’re giving some options (I found three) and you click on the one most suitable for you. You’re then asked to create a page. If you click on Get on Google, you’re taken to a page where you search your business. Like this one below. If it is already in the system, your business name pops up and you’re asked to create a Google+ page for it. Once that’s done, voila! You’re in business. Of course, you are allowed to customise your page. I tried it out and I found it very useful.
