AN AUSTRALIAN jihadist dubbed Jihad Joe, who was fighting with Islamic State has been killed in Syria.
Brisbane man Zia AbdulHaq, who was also known as Abu Yusseph, was
revealed to have left his family to fight with Islamic State in Syria in
August.The Australian has now reported the jihadist was killed while fighting for the terrorist group on October 3.
A member of his unit confirmed the 33-year-old’s death to The Australian as tributes began to flow for the “martyr” online.
A Twitter account linked to Wisam Hadded, who ran the now defunct Al-Risalah Islamic Centre, yesterday posted praise for his friend becoming a “shaheed”, which means martyr.
Tributes have been posted for Abu Yusseph.

“May Allah accept him,” he wrote.
An edited photo of AbdulHaq apparently in prayer was uploaded to twitter, saying he was “martyred on the day of Arafah”, an Islamic holiday.
The Afghan-born man was believed to have left his ex-wife and son in Queensland to join the conflict in Syria with IS after being “brainwashed” into joining the group at talks held by radical preachers in Brisbane.
