A mother in Lubbock, Texas claims that she was waiting to be seen in her OBGYN’s office when she was kicked out.
Erin Pena was taking her 4 month old son for a routine visit. After waiting an hour to be seen, her son was ready for his lunch. Pena began to breastfeed her baby in the waiting room, when the receptionist of the doctor’s office told her to stop and feed him in the bathroom or a back room.
Thankfully, Pena knew her rights, and by law, she can breastfeed anywhere. So, she continued to feed her son.
Unfortunately, the situation took a turn for the worst, and the receptionist began to make threats to the young mother. Eventually, SECURITY led the mother out of the building.
This mother has not let this go and has outlined the entire experience on KCBD News’s Facebook page.
Of course, the medical center has made an about-face and has since apologized to the mother.
Why is it that a woman doing one of the most natural things in feeding her child, should have to be treated like a criminal? Would the receptionist have made threats to someone else who was scantily clad?
Anyone of us can turn on the television and see a woman showing off all her goodies and the world applauds her of being strong and in command of her sexuality, but a woman who breastfeeds is some deviant that must be shamed and told to hide in a closet.
Motherhood is a blessing which unfortunately has been made to seem like a curse in today’s society. It seems the wires are all crossed in today’s world.
