Officers shoot dead a man who
charged at a group of New York police while they were posing for a
picture, hitting one in the head with a hatchet.
The officers were on foot patrol when they were asked by a freelance photographer to pose for a picture on a Queens street about 2pm on Thursday, a New York Police Department spokesman said.
Suddenly, the man with the hatchet charged at the officers. He swung the weapon, striking one officer on the right arm, then swung it again and struck a second officer on the head, the spokesman said.
The remaining two officers fired at the man, hitting him.
