by Belle Jones A New Jersey nurse, who has been quarantined since her return to the United States after exposure to Ebola in West Africa, has said that her civil rights are being violated.
“We’re not going to dispute that the government has, under certain circumstances, the right to issue a quarantine,” he added to Reuters. “The policy is overly broad when applied to her.”
She has not displayed any symptom of the deadly disease or tested positive; however, does that mean she has a case considering the risk of her exposure?
Hickox has received a lot of attention since she wrote a detailed account of what she claims was horrible treatment at the Newark Liberty Airport this past Friday.
Now, would this even have to happen if the Obama administration would just halt travel to these countries that are ravaged with this disease and close our borders? Many people are saying that the quarantine is a violation of her civil rights, but that she put herself in a dangerous region, and to protect the populace, this must be done.
Hickox challenged Governor Chris Christie over his policy to quarantine medical workers for 21 days who have been in contact with the disease; however, he stood firm at the time. As in all things political, Governor Christie made a shocking statement today –Hickox will be released.
Christie tweeted on Monday that she would be taken to her home in Maine by private transportation per her request.
The Obama administration has put pressure on the New Jersey governor as well as New York Governor Andrew Cuomo for their quarantine policy.
With the sudden change, resulting in her pending release, it appears Governor Christie was not able to withstand the mounting political pressure from the Obama administration.
Do you agree with the sudden change of policy or not? Sound off and let me know what you think about this.
