Poverty in Pasifika population worrying community

Rising levels of poverty within New Zealand's ageing Pasifika population is raising concern among those trying to help. Nearly 14,000 Pacific islanders over the age of 65 live in New Zealand - most of them in Auckland.
Vaiola Budgeting in South Auckland estimates nearly 40% of its mostly Pasifika clients are now aged over 60 and the number is growing.
"It's about managing their finances - sometimes it can be quite hard because the children are managing those for them so they don't get to see it," says Tina Mataiti.
Housing providers say there's been a change in culture as traditionally most island extended families lived together.
Now, many Pasifika who own their own home are struggling to keep it because their pension isn't enough to pay rising rates, bills and loans.
Agencies dealing with these people are now calling for more information to find out the true extent of the problem.
