Less than 24 hours after Mali confirmed its first case of the deadly
Ebola Virus disease, the victim, a two-year old girl, died Friday.
The dead girl reportedly arrived from neighboring Guinea, and
Wednesday tested positive for the virus, making Mali the sixth West
African country to be hit by the deadly virus.
There were reports that the toddler’s mother died of the same disease in Guinea, but had been ferried into Mali by relations.
Mali’s health minister, Ousmane Kone, had earlier claimed that the girl, who was isolated on Wednesday, had improved.
Some 43 people who were in contact with the girl, including 10 health
workers, are being monitored, the country’s health officials said.
