A Baltimore teacher and 17-year-old student went to blows in the school’s hallway Friday, ending with the teacher being placed on administrative leave and the student charged with assault. A spectator to the violent beatdown captured the incident on video with a cell phone, including the teacher verbally threatening to kill the kid.
The altercation at Carver Vocational-Technical High School started out verbal before quickly turning physical when the student grabbed the unnamed female teacher and slammed her body up against the lockers. The teacher is heard on the video yelling, “I’ll kill you in here … what the fu*k do you think this is.” Another student attempts to break up the brawl, but to no avail, Baltimore NBC affiliate WBAL reported.
Before the fight broke out, the teacher reportedly told the female student to get off her phone since the class was taking a test. That didn’t sit well with the teen who then slammed an object onto a desk before throwing something at the teacher while yelling at her and storming out of the room, according to the affiliate.
The incident has ignited a debate among parents and school administrators as to whether the teacher acted unprofessionally or if her reaction was in self defense — many believe the student was the instigator, except those related to the teen.
The student’s aunt, Nikia Jones, told WBFF that she was disappointed in the way the teacher handled the situation.
“You’re supposed to be a role model to these children and you took your shoes off and physically was fighting her like you was outside on the street,” she said.The teacher has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation, and the student was released to a parent after the fight was broken up.
