After a gang of ruffians were creating quite the ruckus in
an Indiana town, officers were called out for various reasons, including
vandalism, theft, and assault. However, after hearing of a little
girl’s bike that was stolen just one day after her birthday (the day she
got the bike), an officer left and actually came back – but it wasn’t
with her stolen bike.
As explained on the Madison County Safety Alerts Facebook page, an Anderson neighborhood was being targeted by a group of thugs:
A group of teens that have been [wreacking] havoc on the neighborhood came around today and threw a mixture of rocks and antifreeze at the smaller kids and stole her (my daughter’s) brand new bike that she got for her birthday yesterday.
Luckily, Officer Matt Jarrett of the Anderson Police Department was one of the officers to respond.
After Officer Jarrett left, you can imagine the family’s
surprise when he pulled back into the neighborhood just a short while
later. According to the account given, Officer Jarrett “took it upon
himself to go and replace her bike and deliver it (to her).”
The kind gesture struck a great many folks as purely
astounding. The officer not only went out of his way to help the little
girl, but he reached into his own wallet to do so.
With the negativity spewed by the media lately regarding
those who volunteer their lives to serve and protect on a daily basis,
it’s nice to hear about all the good police officers do every day, as it
usually gets overlooked. That being said, despite the media’s best
attempts to demonize police, this is what the majority of officers are
really like, and it’s high time that we acknowledge that reality.
