Although, we’re not 100 per cent convinced, because she still has a secret stash of 800 fags in her room.
Muriel Froomberg quit ciggies five years ago so she could ‘live a long life’ and watch her great great grandchildren grow up.
She kicked the habit at the tender age of 102 – after more than ninety years smoking around 40-a-day.
When her daughter-in-law Barbara Froomberg, 81, told her to throw them away she replied: ‘No, you never know when I might need them.’
It is estimated sprightly Murial, who started smoking aged 16, has puffed away on an estimated 1.3 million cigarettes in her long life.
Muriel, from Willesden, north London, turned 107 on Monday and celebrated in style – with a trip to the hairdressers, a manicure and lunch at the Ritz.
Pretty fancy, we’re sure you’ll agree.
Muriel still has plenty of years left in her and goes for a daily trip around Regents Park in her wheelchair to see the squirrels and enjoy the fresh air.
Born in London to a Jewish family in 1909, Muriel, is known as Mumu to her three children, five grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
During World War Two Muriel was evacuated to Northamptonshire and returned to Brent five years later with her late husband Archie and her three sons.
She lived in Willesden for 20 years before moving to her St. John’s Wood apartment in 1967.
According to her carer Eva Dziedic, the key to a late life is a mixture of eating healthy food and a weekly bottle of whiskey, Muriel’s favourite tipple which she enjoys mixed with ginger ale.
She insists on enjoying chicken soup and asparagus at every meal and refuses to snack between meals, treating herself only to a daily treat of a small piece of chocolate.
Since becoming a centenarian, Muriel has collected eight birthday cards from The Queen.
Muriel added: ‘She looks like a very nice person.’
