Royal Mail said the price of a first class stamp will increase to 64p and second class will go up to 55p.
That means they are both going up by a penny each, along with large letter stamps which will also increase by 1p.
A spokesman said: ‘We believe these changes are necessary to help ensure the sustainability of the Universal Postal Service.’ This is above the rate of inflation which was around 0 per cent for most of 2015.
Stamps went up by a penny last year too.

Before Royal Mail was privatised in 2013, first class stamps cost 60p and second class stamps cost 50p.
A first class stamp now costs more than twice what it did in 2002.
Royal Mail said it had ‘carefully considered’ the impact on customers and its own business before deciding to apply the ‘smallest possible increase’ next month.
He added that UK stamp prices offered some of the best value in Europe. Across the continent, the average first class price is 78p, while for second class it is 64p figure.
The UK also has the highest recognised standards of any major European country, the company added.
Better stock up before March 29.
