Alessio Trerotoli, an Italian photographer from Rome, was feeling pretty down when his girlfriend decided to go on holiday without him last summer.
Luckily he was able to make plans to travel by himself, and accepted they’d be holidaying separately that year. So, he went off to soak up the sun in Monopoli, while his other half ventured off to Sicily to visit her family.
But to make sure he didn’t get too lonely, Alessio decided to take some earplugs that his girlfriend had left behind with him.
Turning it into a girlfriend replacement, he drew a little face on one earplug and sent some snaps to his girlfriend, showing P – as he’d named the earplug – relaxing near the sea and enjoying the countryside.
He sent more and more photos to his partner, in a jokey, ‘wish you were here’ sort of way.
These photos turned into a photography project for Alessio after he’d had so much fun sending the first few. And, after their holiday together, he continued to take pictures of little P even after returning to Rome.
It almost seems like a real-life Cast Away.
