Japanese MP resigns over affair with kimono dresser

A Japanese member of parliament, Kensuke Miyazaki has announced his resignation after a weekly magazine revealed his love affair with a 34-year-old kimono dresser.
The ruling Liberal Democratic party lawmaker says he has done ‘a cruel thing’ by having an affair with the lady days before his fellow MP wife was due to give birth to their first child.

The pair met at the opening ceremony of Japan’s parliament in January when the model and professional kimono dresser helped Miyazaki and other politicians dress in ceremonial garb.
Reports say the politician later had a sexual encounter with the model some days before his wife – fellow politician Megumi Kaneko – gave birth.
“I have done such a cruel thing” to my wife, he told a nationally televised media conference. “I’m deeply, deeply,
deeply sorry that what I’ve been advocating [on paternity leave] was contradicted by my careless actions. So, I have decided to quit.”
Recall, Miyazake made the headlines recently when he made calls for a paternity leave to help his then pregnant wife- a first for a male Japanese lawmaker.
His request drew criticisms from scores of politicians in a country where such a thing is unheard of but he won the backing of the prime minister, Shinzo Abe, who supported his idea.
