Caps paceman Mitchell McClenaghan has fronted the media for the first
time after going under the knife following a nasty eye injury.
The 29-year-old suffered the injury in the first ODI against Pakistan in Wellington late last month, after copping a delivery through his helmet and above the eye.
McClenaghan has been given the all clear to resume
exercise in the next couple of days, with the aim to be back bowling
within the next week.
"All
the signs have been positive and my surgeon has done a fantastic job
and really feeling really confident about a return to cricket soon,"
McClenaghan said.
He recounted the incident saying at he immediately feared for his eyesight.
"It
went very, very close to going in my brain. I had fragments in the
sinus cavity so the two plates that were put in place to reinforce the
orbital bone.
"First thought was why didn't I hit
it, second though was 'got a ball inside my helmet' and then when I was
trying to get it out, my conscious thought was 'can I see'."
