The retailer says it has removed hoverboards until further testing can be done.
It follows advice from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) urging stores not to stock them until they’re deemed safe.
It is understood Toys ‘R’ Us’s decision concerns the Razor Hovertrax device.

‘If, following the investigation, we decide it’s appropriate to resume selling the item, we will once again make it available on our website.’
The CPSC said 52 hoverboard fires had caused $2million of damage in 24 states – with two homes and a vehicle included in the destruction.
In a letter to manufacturers and distributers, the CPSC wrote: ‘We believe that many of the reported incidents, and the related unreasonable risk of injuries and deaths associated with fires in these products, would be prevented if all such products were manufactured in compliance with the referenced voluntary safety standards.’
