Video: Flight of the dildo draws John Oliver's attention Latest

Shortly after Steven Joyce copped a dildo to the nose at Waitangi, he issued a challenge to John Oliver to feature it. Ten days later, the comedian has come through.

New Zealand politics have once again featured on the Last Week Tonight show, showing off our nation to the world.

Mr Joyce openly invited Oliver to feature the footage on his show, so "we can get it over with".

And Oliver has responded with enthusiasm, calling it "the new greatest film in town".

He presented a short video featuring director Sir Peter Jackson, proudly waving a flag that didn't make it into the shortlist for the new one.

Dramatically flying through the air is the New Zealand flag, with Mr Joyce and the dildo superimposed on it.

"If you want an image which sums up everything great about New Zealand, this is the flag right here," Oliver said.

Oliver said initially they were reluctant to cover the story, until they saw Mr Joyce's tweet. In response to the bait, Oliver ended the Last Week Tonight show with a tribute to Mr Joyce's experience. There was a choir singing about the dildo throwing, two people dressed as sex toys jumping around and dildo balloons falling from the ceiling, all while an animated visual of Mr Joyce's face being repeatedly beaten with a dildo played in the background.

But there's no way "we can get it over with": "I think we both know this will never be over for [Mr Joyce]," Oliver said. "Your entire life will now be viewed through a dildonic prism."

Oliver has featured New Zealand in the show before, poking fun at the New Zealand flag designs and mocking the scandal when National allegedly used Eminem's music in campaign ads, both of which he mentions in the lead-up to Mr Joyce's dildo story.
