A man is suing Chet Hanks for allegedly
rear-ending him on a California highway last year, and he's holding
Chet's parents, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, partially responsible.
Tom and Rita are both named as defendants along with Chet in the lawsuit filed March 25 in Los Angeles County.
The plaintiff, Terry Moogan, claims that Chet was
under the influence of "drugs and/or alcohol" when he allegedly collided
with Moogan's car. The papers claim that Tom and Rita are the owners of
the vehicle Chet was driving at the time of the incident.
"Despite knowing that Chester Hanks was a careless
and reckless driver and a habitual user of drugs and alcohol, they
negligently permitted Chester Hanks to operate their vehicle and thus,
in addition to Chester Hanks, are responsible for the physical and
emotional injuries Mr. Moogan sustained as a result of the accident,"
the suit alleges.
Last September, the 25-year-old aspiring rapper
admitted to having a cocaine addiction in a string of revealing
Instagram videos, which have since been deleted.
"A couple months ago I was selling coke [and]
doing coke until I couldn't even snort it up my nose anymore because it
was so clogged," he said in the videos, where he also revealed that he
went to rehab. "I even smoked crack. If I can change, you can change.
There is a solution."
ET caught up with Chet's Oscar-winning father at the Bridge of Spies premiere last October, when Tom addressed his son's sobriety.
"As a parent, you love your kids unconditionally,"
he told ET. "You support them every step of the way. You got to applaud
the bravery and honesty when it actually comes out of your own house."
Just last week, Chet was all smiles with his mom,
Rita, at a Justin Bieber concert at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Rita even posted a sweet photo from the duo's evening to Instagram.

"@justinbieber @scooterbraun Thanks for the terrific show tonight," she captioned the pic. "I had a cool date, too @chethanx."
