La’Porsha Renae may have lost the final season of American Idol but she’s still getting a lot of publicity – though not for the best reason.
After claiming that she ‘doesn’t agree’ with the ‘particular lifestyle’ led by gay and transgender people, fans of the singer are now livid.
La’Porsha said she ‘wasn’t bought up that way’ (to accept homosexuality) but she does think that homosexuals are ‘sweet, nice people’ and she even has some ‘people that I love dearly’ who are gay.
And after she took to Twitter, writing ‘we don’t have to agree with each other’s life choices to love/respect one another’, fans of the show and singer decided it was time to tell her exactly what their problem was.
‘You’re implying that being gay is choice and it’s not #GIRLBYE,’ wrote one Twitter user.
‘Being gay isn’t a lifestyle; it’s part of who someone is. Using the word lifestyle implies it’s a choice — which it isn’t,’ said another.
And another fan asked: ‘supported you all season. Just wondering when you CHOSE to be straight. (sic).
Her comments came after the final episode aired on Thursday night and the Mississippi-native revealed that she would now be leaving her home state. One reporter allegedly asked how she felt about the state’s recent enactment of an anti-LGBT law.
‘This is how I feel about the LGBT community: They are people just like us,’ said La’Porsha.
‘They’re not animals as someone stated before. They’re people with feelings. Although all of us may not agree with that particular lifestyle for religious reasons, whatever the reason is, you still treat each other with respect,’ she said.
‘Everybody is a human being. We should be able to coexist with one another.’

And then she added: ‘I am one of the people who don’t really agree with that lifestyle. I wasn’t brought up that way. It wasn’t how I was raised.
‘But I do have a lot of friends and a lot of people that I love dearly who are gay and homosexual and they’re such sweet, nice people. We should just respect each other’s differences and opinions and move on.’
