SINGAPORE: Two-time Olympic badminton champion and world No.
4 Lin Dan of China was beaten by Indonesia's Sony Dwi Kuncoro in a huge
upset at the OUE Singapore Open.
After compatriot and top seed Chen Long's surprise exit in the
quarter-final, Lin became the tournament favourite heading into his
semi-final with world No. 56 Sony. But the second seed failed to live up to expectations early on as it was the Indonesian who took the first game 21-10. With his back to the wall, Lin fought back in the second game. It was tied at 9-all before Lin pulled away to win it 21-17.
Still it was Sony who showed his mettle to win the thrilling decider 22-20. The 2004 Olympic bronze medallist will face South Korea's Son Wan Ho in the final.
