Did Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice's Instagram account just hint at Robin's identity?

Batman
v Superman's official Instagram may have just hinted that their version
of Robin is Jason Todd, from the original DC Comics
Warner Bros. Pictures
With the internet and social media at their disposal when it comes to
promotion, cinema-goers have learned that movie studios often post
teasing spoilers or worldwide exclusives unexpectedly on the platforms.
Now, it seems like Warner Brothers are employing that technique by
potentially hinting at Robin's real-life identity in their
newly-developing franchise.
As avid fans of the DC Comics will have noticed when
watching the movie, a scene in Batman v Superman saw a brooding Bruce
Wayne (Ben Affleck) looking upon a statuesque representation of sidekick
Robin's costume with the words"Hahaha! Joke's on you Batman," painted
onto it. The film's official Instagram posted a still from that sequence
on 27 April along with the caption: "Twenty years in Gotham, how many
good guys are left?"
Now, you might be thinking, if we've seen all that
before, how does that hint at Robin's identity? Well, the day in which
the account uploaded the image could be a huge clue. The first time
Robin died in the original comics was in the 1988 issue A Death In The
Family, where villain The Joker kidnapped then-Robin, Jason Todd, and
brutally beat him with a crowbar before exploding the warehouse that he
was in.
The events described took place on 27 April 1985, evidenced by Todd's
death certificate shown in the comics, so surely it can't be a
coincidence that the marketing posted that exact snapshot and caption on
such a prominent day in the Batman storyline. Interestingly too,
subsequent comics followed Batman as he tried to deal with his grief,
plagued by guilt from not saving Robin, a trait that would definitely
tie-in with Ben Affleck's moody portrayal of the character in Zack Snyder's film.
Todd,
who was the second version of Robin seen in the comics after Dick
Grayson, died on 27 April, the same day in which the official Instagram
shared the picture
DC ComicsThe words
printed on the Robin statue also proves how plausible the theory is too
now that is has some context. Given how synonymous The Joker is with the
laughing phrase 'haha' (Jared Leto's most recent version has it
tattooed many times on his chest) and the fact that he was the one who
murdered Todd, it certainly seems like the trio are connected. If Todd
is already dead in the DC Extended Universe, then his comic book
replacement Tim Drake will surely be the version we see in any future
instalments. That has not been confirmed.
Only time will tell whether we'll see Robin pop up in an upcoming Warner Brothers' DC films. The Justice League Part One
will be released on 17 November 2017 while Part Two is not scheduled to
come out until 2019. Wonder Woman will also be seen in her own movie in
June 2017, although Robin will almost certainly not star in that one
given that it will be set mostly during the First World War. For more entertainment news follow A-List on Twitter @Alistinsider
