After months of speculation, Warner Bros. officially announced that Ben Affleck is going to be directing and starring in a stand-alone Batman film.
Studio chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara confirmed the news at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Tuesday, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"I'm also excited to know that we will be working with Ben Affleck on a stand-alone Batman movie," Tsujihara shared during the annual convention for cinema operators.
It's also exciting for those who slammed director Zack Snyder's take on the gritty hero in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Perhaps Affleck -- who directed and starred in Argo, which won the Best Picture Oscar in 2013 -- will helm a more critically-appreciated take on the beloved vigilante.
Affleck reportedly teamed up with comic book writer and DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns to develop the solo Batman project, Deadline reported last July.
While no official release date has yet been announced, many fans are speculating that the film could fill one of two dates Warner Bros. has slated for untitled DC projects.
This is a big year for the Dark Knight, who is appearing on screen in two separate DC projects: Batman v Superman, released in March, and the upcoming Suicide Squad, which hits theaters Aug. 5.
