Kelly Ripa is saying goodbye to her beloved co-host.
ABC News president James Goldston announced on Tuesday morning that after four years on Live! With Kelly and Michael, Michael Strahan is leaving the daytime talk show to take a full-time position on Good Morning America.
The former NFL pro -- who currently appears on the morning program
twice a week -- will bring his skills as an "interviewer with a genuine
warmth and a quick wit" to "tell stories that inspire, inform and
empower people" on a daily basis, Goldston said in a statement.
"I look forward to continuing to work with the incredible team at GMA.
It is an exciting opportunity to be able to bring unique stories and
voices to the audience," Strahan said in a statement. "My time with Live With Kelly and Michael
has been transformative, and my departure will be bittersweet. Kelly
has been an unbelievable partner, and I am so thankful to her and the
entire team. I am extremely grateful for the amazing support I've
received from all of the fans."
GMA co-anchor George Stephanopoulos
quickly took to Twitter to congratulate Strahan. "@michaelstrahan is the
ultimate team player. Couldn't be happier to have him with us every
morning on @gma," he wrote.
Robin Roberts also tweeted: "Thrilled that
@michaelstrahan will be joining us every morning @GMA! He's the ultimate
teammate..we couldn't be happier.#TerrificTuesday."
The announcement comes just a few weeks after the 44-year-old TV personality was spotted on a beach vacation with his 27-year-old girlfriend, Kayla Quick.
