MOSCOW: Russia's Federal Security Service has obtained data
on tax law violations at some firms after searching the Moscow office of
Onexim Group, which manages assets of tycoon Mikhail Prokhorov, the
service said in a statement on Friday.
Russian law enforcement officials, some wearing ski masks,
on Thursday searched the offices of Prokhorov, a tycoon whose newspaper
has published revelations about people with ties to President Vladimir
Putin.
The Federal Security Service did not name the firms and did not say whether they were part of Onexim.
The searches were conducted together with the tax service as
part of a criminal investigation related to Tavrichesky Bank in St.
Petersburg, the service said.
In March 2015, Russia's IFC bank, in which Onexim has a
stake, was chosen to rescue Tavrichesky Bank by the central bank, which
granted a ten-year loan of 28 billion roubles (US$422 million) for the
procedure.
IFC bank was one of Onexim's assets at which searches were conducted on Thursday."As a result of initial activities, information was received about violation of tax law requirements by a number of commercial structures," the Federal Security Service said.
This documentation was handed over to specialists for further investigation.
Onexim and IFC bank were not available for immediate comment on Friday evening.
