The Olsen twins' worst childhood moments

You've got to hand it to them. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen leveraged a role they landed at six months old into a high fashion empire. From Full House to the CFDA awards, we haven't seen such a successful dual career in anyone else under 30. They may have been set up for success, but they didn't just shoot for the moon and land among the stars—they landed on the moon, planted the Olsen flag, and took over. Don't forget, they were Hollywood producers at age 6, and they managed to become film and fashion moguls while overcoming some unfortunate mishaps. The two young actresses who played as Michelle Tanner struck gold in Hollywood and in the fashion industry, but there were certainly some stumbles along the way.

Almost fired from Full House

The twins had landed their first, and what would become their breakout role, at six months old as Michelle Tanner, the youngest of three girls on the sitcom Full House. They eventually became the biggest stars of the sitcom, but not before experiencing a tumultuous start. You see, filming can be rough on children, especially babies, and they don't always listen to directors when filming a scene because, let's face it, they're babies. Mary-Kate and Ashley were no exception.
According to Daily Mail UK, Full House actor
John Stamos admits he did not enjoy working with the infant twins in the first few seasons of the show. Stamos claims it was hard to get good shots because the twins cried so frequently and at one point he asked for new babies.
Once Stamos realized that he maybe just didn't like acting with babies, the Olsens were brought back on the show, because they were, frankly, cuter than the uggo replacements the casting director had scrounged up and began their meteoric rise to Hollywood fame.

Dentures: Been there done that

Mary-Kate and Ashley are fraternal, not identical, twins. Ashley is right-handed, Mary-Kate is left handed. Ashley is an inch taller than her twin and has a freckle just above her lip. Also, they lost their teeth at rapidly different rates when they were children. Since they shared the role of Michelle Tanner and her teeth had to consistently look the same, the twins were fitted with dentures as they began losing their baby teeth, because obviously their Full House character constantly had perfect dental hygiene. The Olsens are gonna kill the denture game when they're 90 because, hello, they have experience.

Sometimes credited as a single person

According to ABC News, Full House producers credited the Michelle Tanner character to "Mary Kate Ashley Olsen" for the first few seasons. Back in those days, you could just do things like that and no one would know the character was played by twins. Luckily, that stopped happening once the two got older.

The Walmart clothing line

The Olsen twins dressed identically well into their teens and sometimes even still, but that's a whole other issue. Normally, we think of Walmart as a place to buy things for the house and maybe stampede over someone during Black Friday. We wouldn't put the latest fashion hits on our Walmart shopping lists. Yet, we totally did if we were tweens in the early 2000s, when Mary-Kate and Ashley launched their first ever fashion line at Walmart. Unfortunately, the clothing line didn't do too well, but it did help open the doors to be the faces of Badgley Mischka and eventually open their own couture label.

Mary-Kate's anorexia

Just before she hit 18, Mary-Kate Olsen was admitted into a treatment center for anorexia. She visibly lost a ton of weight before she was admitted. Unfortunately, the stresses of the Olsen's work in the fashion industry had finally gotten to Mary-Kate. We're just glad that years later she has retained a more healthy weight.

Mary-Kate's connection to Heath Ledger's death

Mary-Kate Olsen was the first person Heath Ledger's housekeeper called when she found him dead in his apartment. Olsen sent one of her security team members to check on Ledger before the worker realized a medical professional would be more helpful and called for an ambulance. The then-22-year-old actress had been "casually dating" Ledger for three months prior to his death according to Access Hollywood
. Rumors quickly circulated that she had provided the pills Ledger overdosed on, but the allegations were never proven. While it's not necessarily a childhood moment, Ledger's death still hit Mary-Kate at a relatively young age. Luckily, she was able to bounce back and continue her success in the fashion industry.
