At least five people have been killed in two shootings in
northeastern Georgia in what officials believe is a work of one gunman,
the Associated Press (AP) reported early Saturday. The suspect,
identified as Wayne Anthony Hawes by Columbia Country Sheriff’s office,
is at large, according to police.
The first shooting occurred late Friday on Appling
community’s Johnson Drive (nearly 136 miles east of state capital
Atlanta), where three people were shot. Two of them died at the scene
and the third victim died at a local hospital, Columbia County Coroner
Vernon Collins told CBS News. The second shooting took place on Rosemont Drive, about a mile away from the first crime scene, Collins said.
Identities of those who died is yet to be confirmed and the
five bodies would be taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime
lab, Collins said, according to the AP.
Although the motive for the shootings is yet to be established, County Sheriff’s Office believes it was for domestic reasons.
