This feud has taken a litigious turn.
E! News reports comedian Arsenio Hall filed a $5 million libel suit against singer Sinéad O’Connor, stemming from her recent accusations that he gave drugs to Prince over “the decades.”
O’Connor wrote on her Facebook page
on Monday, “Two words for the DEA investigating where prince got his
drugs over the decades…. Arsenio Hall (AKA Prince’s and Eddie Murphy’s
bitch)…Arsenio I’ve reported you to the Carver County Sherrif’s office.
Expect their call. They are aware you spiked me years ago at Eddie
Murphy’s house. You best get tidying your man cave. [sic].”
She then penned an even more vitriol 1,400-word rant against Hall the next day. Read here.
According to E!, the lawsuit, filed in an L.A.
court on Thursday, states, “Desperate, attention-seeker Sinéad O’Connor
has maliciously published outlandish defamatory lies about comedian
Arsenio Hall. The malicious statements made by O’Connor are absolutely
false and O’Connor’s heinous accusations that Hall engaged in this
criminal conduct are despicable, fabricated lies.”
The documents also say Hall has had only
“minimal contact” with the Irish singer and that her “malicious and
reckless lies have spread like wildfire across the media through the
United States and the world, causing substantial harm to Hall’s
reputation.”
Prince was found dead on April 21 at his home,
Paisley Park, and there is an investigation into whether prescription
painkillers, particularly Percocet,
were involved. E! reports the U.S. Attorney’s office and Drug
Enforcement Administration are joining the investigation. An autopsy was
completed but the result may take several weeks to be released.
O’Connor’s biggest hit, the 1990 ballad “Nothing Compares 2 U,” was written by Prince.
