James McAvoy and Anne-Marie Duff have decided to call it quits after nearly 10 years of marriage.
The X-Men star and Suffragette
actress broke the news in a joint statement to ET, saying, "It is with
tremendous sadness that we have come to the decision to divorce."
"We
enter this next phase with continued friendship, love and respect for
one another and the shared focus of caring for our son," the former
couple added. "We ask that you respect our and, most importantly, our
child’s privacy during this time."
McAvoy, 37, and Duff, 45, met on-set of the U.K. series Shameless, and were married in October 2006. They have one son together, Brendan, who was born in 2010.
Meanwhile, McAvoy stars as Professor X in the popular X-Men movie franchise. The latest of which, X-Men: Apocalypse is set to drop on May 27.
