Kanye West
is back at it, making people uncomfortable with his lyrics. Taylor
Swift wasn’t involved this time, but his wife Kim Kardashian was.
ScHoolboy Q released a new song called “THat
Part,” which features Kanye West. During his verse, Kanye talks about
being in a strip club and coming home to an angry Kim, according to TMZ. He then goes on to compare her to an old family friend, O.J. Simpson. “Wifey gonna kill me, she the female O.J.,” he says in the song. You can listen to his part here.
It’s unclear why Kanye decided to compare his
wife to a man who is widely believed to be guilty of murdering his
ex-wife, despite the 1995 jury verdict, especially when her father, the
late Robert Kardashian, was a close friend and legal adviser to O.J.
But this isn’t the first time Kanye has made waves with a line from one
of his songs. Below are five other controversial West lyrics that have
stirred the pot over the years.
1. Taylor Swift diss
It took years for Kanye West and Taylor Swift
to move past their infamous 2009 MTV Video Music Award moment, where he
interrupted her on stage. The two recently showed that they were
friendly with one another, which is why a line from “Famous”
on Kanye’s “The Life of Pablo” shocked many people. “I feel like me and
Taylor might still have sex/Why? I made that b---- famous,” Kanye
boasts on the song. The line drew widespread criticism, and Swift fired
back indirectly during a Grammy acceptance speech in February.
2. Amber Rose lyric
Swift wasn’t the only one Kanye called out on
his most recent album, “The Life of Pablo.” In the first 60 seconds of
the song “30 Hours,” he appears to refer to out ex-girlfriend Amber
Rose. On the track, the rapper says, “My ex said she gave me the best
years of her life/I saw a recent picture of her, I guess she was right.”
3. Parkinson’s disease
On his 2013 album “Yeezus,” Kanye made a song
called “On Sight” that stirred up trouble. The song had a line, “A
monster about to come alive again/Soon as I pull up and park the Benz/We
get this b---- shaking like Parkinson’s.” According to TMZ, the American Parkinson Disease Association attacked the rapper for being “distasteful” and showing “ignorance.”
4. Kris Humphries diss
Before Kanye wed Kardashian, she was married
briefly to NBA player Kris Humphries. While she was with him, Kanye put
out a song called “Cold.” In the song he references falling in love with
Kim, while taking a shot at Humphries by saying he’s lucky he didn’t
tell Jay Z to cut him from the Nets. “And I'll admit, I had fell in love
with Kim/Around the same time she had fell in love with him/Well that's
cool, baby girl, do ya thang/Lucky I ain't had Jay drop him from the
team,” he sang.
5. Apartheid reference
Not only did the rapper make waves with “On
Sight” off “Yeezus,” but he also got people talking with the
controversial “Blood on the Leaves.” At one point on the track, he uses
a comparison to the apartheid system of racial segregation in South
Africa. “Now you sittin' courtside, wifey on the other side/Gotta keep
'em separated, I call that apartheid.”
