Lorde wears Valentino (and plaster cast) to Met Ball

Cinders will go to the ball. Lorde has arrived at the most prestigious event on the New York social calendar: The Met Gala, formerly called the Costume Institute Gala, an annual fundraising ball for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.

This year’s theme is Manus x Machina: Fashion in an age of technology’, and Lorde has opted for a tulle princess-style couture gown by Italian fashion house Valentino.

The 19-year-old Kiwi singer, who attended the fashion event with good friends Ellie Goulding, Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez, accessorised her dress with plaster cast, the result of an apparent broken arm.

She might like to wear black on stage, but the teen pop star chose pastel shades of layered tulle designed by Maria Grazia Chirui and Pierpaolo Piccoli of Valentino.

Her close friend Taylor Swift wore a punky cut-out Louis Vuitton dress to the event. The singer paired the print gown with strappy black heels and a statement lip, complementing the choppy blonde do she debuted on the cover of Vogue.
