Ever since Solange dropped A Seat at the Table, critics and fans alike are raving about her new album that centers around racism, sexuality and what’s it like to be an African-American woman in today’s society. Now, the singer is giving us a behind-the-scenes look at just what she did to create her new masterpiece.
Standing at over 11 minutes, Solange’s freshly released mini documentary shows the recording process of A Seat at the Table. Along with her sound engineers, she holes up in a small cabin in Louisiana as she explores her sound.
Solange writes on her Facebook,
“3 years ago, I moved into a small house in the middle sugar cane field
in New Iberia, La with just my engineers @mixedbyblue and @audio_nino
to finish all of the lyrics as well as structure and produce the jam
sessions that have now become the songs on the album.”
“These days and sometimes wee nights were so
fun, filled with experimentation, exploration of sounds, and stories I
wanted to tell…and so while all of them didn’t make the album….they
helped me to shape the sound and sonics of the overall album,” she adds in another post.
